I'm looking for some of these elusive pieces of hardware.

They work in a ball and socket manner, and I've seen them in various uses both on vehicles and machinery. This particular example is a VW bus.

If anyone has leads or knows what they are called I would appreciate the helping hand.

Try an RV shop. They are common on RV doors.

Ambulances use pretty good ones.

You may also want to try a big truck (semi truck) parts house for locking variations.

Great leads guys. I might have found some that will work from an RV supply. the length is an issue I still have to look into. I'll keep looking.

The ambulance ones are perfect, I should have come up with that myself I see them nearly everyday as a fire fighter, couldn't see the forest for the trees . Now where to find an ambulance supply...
