I just picked up a C20 Burb and it drove fine. The tires were old and dry rotted, so I bought new tires from Pep Boys. They are 235/85/16 and load range "E" like what I took off. Well the new tires suck and are extremely unstable with 50 psi in them. With 75 psi they are bearable, but still suck. The dry rotted Michelins were much more stable.

Anyone have any good recommendations? Keep in mind, it's 2wd, stays on the highway, and will see a fair amount of trailer towing. As usual, I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg either.

Unfortunately, you went from the best to cheaper tires and you now know the difference. Michelin's are outstanding tow rig tires IME, but they aren't cheap.

grab the sidewalls of a unmounted tire. and flop them around. if thay flop like paper then = sh!t ride/handling.

thats what you got from cheep pep boy tires.

I've ran Futura tires plenty of times before and liked them, but they were all car tires.

And I compared the sidewalls before I mounted them, they felt the same:confused:

Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's with Kevlar. These tires freakin rock. We have them on our '00 3/4 ton crew cab and they ride excellent, are quiet and wear like iron. We've made a bunch of trips from Cali to Texas and back and have put well over 35,000 miles on them and they are still in great shape.

They don't seem to offer them in 235/85

BFG All Terrains.

I've had them, at one time or another, on every truck I've owned. They are fantastic for highway and unimproved road usage.

They're quiet, tough, hold air, and stay round...a looooong time.

I liked the Goodyear workhorse.
I don't know if they still make them.

44" Ground Hawgs, heard they rock on the highway..... lol

My cousin got Michelin LTX or something on his 02 3/4 ton, he loves them, my dad has also had them on his 99 burb since he got it 7 years ago and they still look nice, 70000 miles later... lol. They are def worth the price in the long run.

I've tried several different tires on my pickups and trailers, but have settled on Firestone Transforce for my hauling rigs. I run AT's on the pickups and HT's on the trailers. When the AT tread gets a little thin, they are moved over to the trailers and run a lot of miles there until they are spent.
They are not a cheap tire up front, but will save you money in the long run. Fewer flats, blowouts, and etc., along with excellent tread life. Cheaper tires have always cost me more in the long run.

Another tire you want to check out is the Hankook DynaPro's. I've had two sets of the MT's on my farm pickup with excellent service. I here good things about the ATM version also.

I have Dynapro Mt's on my Blazer... little more noise than what I want on this one though. The ATM looks promising though, and not too expensive through Tyres International.
