Sammy,
My advice would be to see if you can negotiate a little lower price:
1.
Doors and jams: I notice quite a bit of rust on the underside of those doors, and the jam on the latch side is scuffed indicating that the door hinge area is probably rotten (in the door, not the cowl side) ...and so the doors are sagging slightly. If you want everything to fit nice and close easily, you'll be buying and hanging on a set of repro doors (~$500)
2.
Paint: Definitely a repaint, the giveaways are the wiring harnesses on the inside and the pedal levers being white (the steering column too!). The front footwell corners are notorious for rust, and given that it's repainted..it's hard to know what sins are hiding under those corners now.
3.
RUST: Assume you've got it...EVERY 1st Gen has it. Even the CA and AZ ones. The question is how badly do you want it all gone? Check out the "Cancer Support Thread" in the 1st Gen Forum....it might scare you a little, but it will also show you the "reality" of loving, buying and restoring an early K5. It's possible to fix anything that's bad....but it will cost you $$$ and time.
4.
Driveline: If it doesn't impress you and you're planning to swap it out, it's hard to pay for it.
5.
Top: Check to see if it has dome lights (2 of them on the drivers side). That's a giveaway that you've got a single-wall top. There are a lot nicer than the double wall versions, and they DO add value to the K5.
As a reference, I paid $7000 for mine a few years back. It was a big block K5 but was only in primer, on 1/2-Ton axles and 35's. I didn't get a bad deal, but there are always mistakes that need to be fixed and problems that will crop up and need $$$....so my best advice is to hold a little something back ($$$) to cover the intial expenses of getting it running and driving the way you'll want.
