I had a an 85 quad and loved it. I just changed it out for a Holley 670 TBI and will never go back. Much better throtle response, power, and about
14-18 mpg. Its pretty cheap and a snap to install.

I used to have a q-jet, but went through some major flooding issues. Tried rebuilding it but to no avail. Now i have an edelbrock 650. bolted it on (only after modifying the throttle bracket.) and never had to adjust it. it ran GREAT out of the box. Not to say that that will happen everytime, but i enjoyed it.

It's gonna be replaced with an ASM EFI manifold and a megasquirt computer, though.

I had a megasquirt....oops it was a holley that kept flooding the rig.

650 cfm 4150hp holley carb. on a chevy 350
I put the spring loaded needle and seat and extended the float tubes and extended the jet pickups in the rear float and added the morosso exdended fuel cell float bowl kit on the front float. I never have more of a problem then anyone else using there carberated blazer for real offroading. it will start right up the few times it has ever stalled.

Got the Holley TA in my Jimmy, it runs great (took some time to tune) but loves to suck down the gas, sitting on a mildly built 400...

Your right about that this thing is the definition of a gas hog for sure! I know I ain't driving no Prius, but come on I should get better then 7 or 8 mpgs on a mild 350.

I get about 7 with a good tailwind. Fuel economy and blazers never were a good combination.

not sure what mine is going to be when it gets done but it should be better then my 78 chevy step side
it had a 400 hp 385 tq. 350 (750 cfm vac. holley) with a 9 inch lift and 36" tsl's . d60 open front and 14 bolt rear detroit 456 gears and a 350 trans with full time 4 wheel drive and drive slugs. with my truck I got 10 miles per gallon no matter in town or interstate. Hell when I moved from indiana to arizona I towed a trailer with about 2000 lbs. on it and a car dolly with my wifes lumina on it with a bunch of stuff stacked in the bed of the truck and in the car. And still avg. exactly 10 miles a gallon all the way here.

now I'm only 325 hp 380tq. 350 (650hp cfm mech double pumper holley) with a 7" lift and 39.5" iroks. d60 detroit electrac front, 14 bolt detroit rear w/ 5.13 gears (may change to 5.38's) 700r4 trans with a part time 4 wheel drive doubler and drive slugs
I will have a much lower running rpm thanks to gearing and overdrive and lock up converter. less drag thanks to the narrower tires. with a less hungry motor. over all hight is the same as the truck carberator wise should take on about the same fuel amount, but I should get much better gas milage.

I have a 770 TA on an 11 to 1 compression 383, have had it on 30+deg angles in every direction and I LOVE IT it is the best carb I have ever used (have had quadrajunk, edelbrock and reg holley) Makes BIG power too:D

I also have a Q-jet.I feel a lot better haveing it now ,after reading this.I`m also going to get Doug Roe's book and maybe look into other books on small blocks w/q-jets.

Well I sold my 670 TA the other day. I took the edelbrock 600 I had on my '71 Nova and put it on my K20. Thing goes a lot better now, much more responsive on the low end then the holley was. Still have to tune it better for the 350 in the truck as it came off a 327 in the Nova.

i have a 1406 edelbrock on mine. its 600 cfm and until recently it did very well. I have a mean stumble which sucks at stop lights. I believe that the carb is just too small for a 454. Never flooded off road after installing the spring loaded seats. easy to tune as well.

Since I put this tube on my Q-jet i have noticed considerable differance performance. 1/4" bent brake line and used gas proof stuff to 'glue' it in there. Drilled some holes and walla! i highly recommend this easy and cheap upgrade.

As I understand it, when you go off camber fuel will start running out of the rear hole and into the throat of the carb giving you a surprise gulp of power. Ever see a carbed rig trying to climb a hill and it'll start bucking? That is fuel sloshing around and overflowing into the carb. This lil tube is supposed to offer the fuel a channel to flow thru back into the carb- therby keeping it from overflowing into the throat. I'm guessing the holes are for breathing. Make sense?

With my Holley I can climb some pretty steep hills and things, but as long as I have my foot on the gas to hold the engine above idle, it will never stall or at least has yet to stall or bog.

Anyway aren't hill climbs at least mid to full throttle?

I have a feeling you are talking about a different kind of wheeling than some of the people defending Q-jets here.

I have been around TONS of different carbs. I have never seen any carb (including the Holley truck avenger) run anywhere near as good as a quadrajet.

Holley makes good carbs, they just don't make any that run really well at angles.

Really? This works?

mines got a truck avenger. pulled it out of the box, bolted it down, adjusted the choke and idle, haven't messed with it.

it's on a built 350. I have had it for around 5 years.

I had the troublesome #1 and it got replaced with a #2..
had to buy the accelerator pump kit and discharge nozzle...

but I LOVE the thing.....
I give thumbs up.:wink1:
