Even thou i have a few squarebodys i still check around in case i find something i have to have, but at least here in california the prices of them has gone thru the roof, anything that is even somewhat nice people are asking $10k plus WTF
Forget about getting a silverado crewcab 4x4 for under $10k even if its needs complete restoration
Maybe all the money i dumped into my trucks will not be as big of a loss as i expected

I've been watching CL and FB marketplace..

Check these "twins" out...almost identical to my '82 K2500,except mine has a 6.2 TH400 in it...
If they sell for anywhere near that price listed,I'll be keeping my truck--since it is "so rare"..!..:surepal:..dozens of other equally rotted and un-driveable square bodies are listed for 1500-3500 bucks..
I'm not willing to spend that much on a vehicle I cant hear run or drive at least...people are stoned if they think they are worth that much..:screwy

I think it's like the people on eBay who have a 30-year-old CB radio that doesn't work but they price it at $100 because it retailed for $120 back then and "it's old". All in the eye of the beholder/seller.

People get Barrett-Jackson fever and price last year's $2k K5 at $10k this year. But those who never hear of the outrageous auction prices don't do that.

Plenty of running, driving, inspectable squarebodies up here in the rusty northeast for under $3k all day long.

VT and NH have many more of them due to those states using less salt and having stricter inspections (NH at least)...everything I've seen for a "nice" square body in MA the prices start at 5 grand and go up from there-mostly "up"...many listed at 12K or higher that are supposedly rust free..

I just think people are unrealistic in their expectations and list things for "Misfit Garage" prices even when they are practically junk...those TV shows have ruined any hopes of a lower income person owning a nice older car or truck for the most part..

A handful of my customers with newer trucks are shocked at the $10k+ repair bills on a 5 year-old truck. They are buying older trucks and putting time and effort into those and still having a reliable vehicle. 95-97 f350s are super common new purchases for new late model powerstroke owners.

When I was looking for my first Gen everyone had barret Jackson fever n I couldn't find one less than 18k! I got lucky with mine if you wanna call it that bc it still wasn't cheap and the Drivetrain was whooped.
I wanted one bc I missed out on one that was bare bones with wagon wheels and a plow for 750$ 15 years ago. I was hooked

I think the only square body trucks that go for big bucks are ones that are in complete running condition. Most of the people that have the big money to spend on old cars and trucks are not mechanically inclined, thus they only want complete running vehicles. Try selling an old broke down piece of junk square body that needs to be restored, and it will sit forever.

This exact issue kept me from getting a 80s CC to DD a few years ago. I found my 00 for $4k and the best priced square body I could find was twice that needed cab corners, rockers and was missing all of its A/C stuff.

I've also been keeping an eye on these as I would like to get a nice C10 or maybe C20 for a daily driver sometime this year. I haven't quite missed the boat, but they boat is about to leave the harbor

This!

I also think people don't understand the market. The fact is some of these trucks are fairly desireable. Add that to the fact that the value has gone up on these rigs. However they aren't in that realm that includes a shell of a project that is worth 5 digits. 73-75 Blazers, 87-91 Blazers and Crews, SWB pickups especially 1987 rigs, and original survivor types all bring decent money. Outside of that obviously the high end resto/mod rigs also bring good money. Otherwise the Craigslist rusty 1981 K20 with JC Whitney and LMC everything, plywood console, and rebel flag headliner will always be a $750 ish truck.

I picked up a 79 K5 Cheyenne at auction for 750.00, it is in very good condition, the odometer reads 000023, no rust, no dents and the paint is in good shape. The interior shows it's age but nothing to worry about. This was a one owner, the gentleman passed away and there was only two others at the estate auction. I looked on line after I bought the Blazer and couldn't believe the price people were asking for these rigs.

The amazing thing is, this Estate auction had been going on all last week. My wife and I showed up on Saturday, the last day of the auction, and this Blazer was sitting there along with a 1996 Coachman travel trailer, the starting bid for the Blazer was 1000.00 so I bid 750.00 and got the Blazer, I also bought the travel trailer for 500.00. I kind of scored !!!!
