What\'s the best limited slip/posi? how much?

I have an 86 longbed K1500 with 4" lift and 35" BFG AT's. It will probably never see offroad use serious enough to need a locker. Before winter I plan on having 4.56 gears and a limited slip put in while they're in there.

What's the best limited slip or posi to go with?
How much can I expect to pay for the gears/ rear limited slip including install?
Is 4-wheel parts in Indianapolis an okay place to use or would I be better off looking for someone local?
Thanks.

If going with gears, and paying a shop, I'd say easily $1000 or more. Price obviously depends on where you are though.

As far as limited slips (clutch type) I would speculate that the Eaton is the #1 choice. They come in a couple of spring configurations, (changes how much load before they slip) which with tires that large, would probably be a necessity.

I got a quote from two places in Houston for a Dana 44 and 12 bolt, one wanted $1400 the other wanted $1600. They said limited slips would be about $300 each.

Where are you at around indianapolis?

If you join IFWDA (indiana four wheel drive assocation) you get 10% off at 4 wheel parts in Indy. Shoot me an email jjlaughner at hotmail.com and I'll give ya some more details. If you join IFWDA through HoosierK5.com its cheaper also... /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I've ran both the Eaton Posi (carbon fiber clutches) and the Detroit Tru-Trac, plus several OEM limited slips.......the Tru-Trac has been my favorite by far.

I'm located about 70 miles north of Indy up Interstate 69. jjlaughner, you've got mail.

i vote carbon fiber clutch eaton, put the beefier springs in it & let it rip. i run mine in my dd w/ 36"s & the heavier springs w/ no problem.

eaton costs about $500 & they have been off & on national backorder here lately.
