We were riding around in my little brother's Chalet last Friday, and we picked up a friend of a friend's to go over to my unlce's field day. On the ride back, he told me he had a 1985 Blazer he wanted to get rid of for $100, and he heard I might be interested. I asked him if it was a K5, or an S10. He didn't know. I asked him if the roof came off, he said yeah. I asked him if it ran and drived. He said it had a severe oil leak, the braking and the steering weren't real good, and the shifter got stuck a lot. I habnded him the $100, sight unseen. Saturday morning, I drove over and picked it up. Much better than I was hoping for. Took it to the shop I work at, powerwashed it, took the roof off, and then got around to finding out what was wrong with it (yes, the top coming off was a higher priority).
The shifter was rusted out at the frame end, and not holding the spring tight. A washer fixed that problem. The left front caliper was seized. Freed it up with some PB Blaster and a C-clamp. That fixed the steering and braking. The oil pump was spraying oil out of the weep hole. A $20 fuel pump cured the oil leak.
Now don't get me wrong, it is a POS. It is an '85 with a 305, someone swapped a TH350 in place of the TH700R4, and it has 3.08 gears, but it runs and drives okay, the four wheel drive works, and I am content.
Stripped all the trim off of it.
