What's this axle??????

closed knuckle dana 60 I have no experience with them but not a real desired axle. some one on here will be able to fill in alot more details about them.

That is a closed knuckle Dana 60 as mentioned, not really worth more than scrap. Much smaller parts inside than open knuckle Dana 60's, parts are hard to get and nobody makes steering for them.

So basically the ring and pinion is Dana 60 just like everything else, but everything except that is much worse than the Dana 60's that give the axle it's reputation.

Would the crossover and high steer stuff transfer to a kingpin 60?

And is the rear axle worth lookin at?

Most likely not. The dana 44 parts between closed and open knuckle generally don't transfer over.

Is the 5.86 going to be useful anyway?

Do regular knuckles swap in?

Iirc, these axles have 1.3" dia, 23 spline stuff and the 60 can not be converted to open knuckles or disc brakes.

Regular knuckles won't swap in.

They have smaller bearings, a weird spline count, on both the shafts and the pinion, its a fortune to convert to discs.

Only one other ratio out there for em 4.56 and it requires a carrier swap.

Good axles if you are restoring an m-715 but not so good other wise

The inners are 1.31" 30 spline, outers are 1.375" 19? spline and the axle joints are 1480 series. Being a closed knuckle axle the joints don't use seals and are lubed from the lube in the knuckle. The bolt pattern for the wheels is an oddball. Unless you are using a matched set of axles from an M-715 they are not worth much.

Buy my dad's m-715 and then you will have a use for that axle lol. Someone's been messing with that axle though. It was originally spring under and I don't think it originally had crossover steer?

Axle joints are not Dana 60 sized 1480. Axles and u-joints are Dana 44 sized. Pinion is 10 spline.

Basically you get the strength of a Dana 44 with the weight of a Dana 60 with parts that are very hard to find.

They have a very odd bolt patern and a very wide spring spacing. (about 37").

These things are worth less than scrap price.

^^^wad just Gona post that. Not worth the hastle. 715s were a awesome truck. Hard to find parts for and not much stronger than a 44. Closed knuckle was never that strong unless you looking at deuce axles.
