Whats wrong with this picture?

Well my K-5 decided to surprise me with a gift this morning at 6:30 am.On my way to work I look in the rearview mirror and see my left tailpipe smoking like a freight train .With no warning out of the blue it just blew the head gasket on the #7 cylinder.Good thing is I wasnt far from home and brought it home and tore it down .I got everything back together up to valve covers because I forgot to buy the v/c gaskets when I went to get the head gasket and intake gasket.Also found out that the guy that sold me the truck lied its not been bored 30 over its a standard bore engine.I patched it up for now ,I just hope the other side doesnt let go .I started to just replace both gaskets but after a compression check on the cylinders I figured I would roll the dice since I wanted to build a new engine anyway and hopefully this one will make it until I get the new engine together.

Since it it sounds like you caught the problem pretty fast, this should make it more likely you will be able to get away with patching the engine up with just a new head/intake gasket for now. Many times people do not catch a problem such as yours until the engine cooks and shuts down on them. Then it is too late.
