What's your favorite pre-2000 Chevy car that can be used as a DD?

Is a sc3800 a bolt in swap? Anyone know?

I think the 60 degree block of the 3.1 wouldn't be the same of 3.8, 90 degree block .

But damn that could be a sleeper with 300 horse......

It's been done but I think it's far from a bolt in. The Cavalier's engine compartment is quite a bit smaller I think.

There's also the dual cam 3.4l from the Lumina Z34 that's the same block as the 3.1, just has the DOHC heads IIRC.

Anybody familiar with the Chevette?

Saw this LS-swapped Chevette on reddit earlier this week: https://www.reddit.com/r/projectcar/comments/a2huzw/one_of_my_old_projects_that_im_reviving_this/

Took a look at CL just for fun and what do you know: https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/d/2-chevrolet-chevette-cars/6758106657.html

The manual Chevette in that craigslist ad might be more than I can handle, but I have the feeling that the owner would nearly give it away.

EDIT: Wow just noticed that these cars are just a few blocks from my home...

I always thought a supercharged 3.8 in front of a V6 Camaro 5 speed in a Chevette would be a neat Mustang terrorizer.

The chevette is just a newer version of a compact like the vega, except it's front wheel drive so putting a v8 or even a 3.8 v6 is a big project to make it rwd as well

Chevettes are RWD. Are you thinking of a Citation?

Buddy of mine has one with a 4.3/ 5 speed from an s-10 in it. It's fun.

Edit: a chevette.

I had one with a 350hp 350 from a 70 ss Nova. Pure monster. I'd love an aluminum 5.3 with a cam and/or turbo. Backed by a 6 speed.

Thing would get nearly 30mpg cruising and be a canyon carving beast with a little suspension work.

I edited my post above to state chevette.
I believe your still talking Monza.

Chevettes are a blast stock lol.

Wow! I've never heard of a FWD Chevette guys, that's interesting! How much did they change the rest of the car when they did that?

That's frickin awesome lol.

Anybody remember Bad Seed? Steve Magnate’s (sp?) Chevette with a Caddy 472 or 500 in it? Was a Hot Rod magazine project in the late 90’s - early 2000’s.
Yep, cut the floor out to make the thing fit.

Factoid: it was his personal car, freiburger just got hired at hot rod and thought it was a company car.
He said he was going street race it.
Freibuger said no, he did anyways.
Then, He damn near got fired by freiberger for it.

Here's a thought starter. 86-88 v-6 manual trans Fiero. 86 had only a 4 speed, but the 87-88's had 5-speed. 2.8 v-6 isn't a barn burner but due to the light weight it moves out pretty well. 87-88 had revised suspension too.

I had a 86 2.8/4-speed that was a hoot on twisting mountain roads. At altitude it was ok, but the handling really made up for the lack of power.

They are not without issues. But meet most of the criteria the op is looking for.

Still if you think the Mitusbishi's build quality sucked, don't get your hopes up for 80's to 90's gm stuff as it sucked then too.
