Wheel size questions?

Ok, so im looking to get some 8 lug rims for my new 3/4 ton stuff.

I have a few questions, if someone would be so kind.

How does the width of the wheel effect how the tire looks mounted on the rim?

The size of the rim 15/16 etc, just dictates how much sidewall there will be correct?
Does more or less sidewall correspond to more or less of the width of the tire being on the ground or no?

The sidewall height will only dictate how soft the ride will be and how low you can go if you air down.
The width of the wheel is what make the tire look different.
If you want the tire to look wide and mean, you go with a wide wheel if you want it to look trim and have little to no bulge go narrow.
Each tire manufacturer will have a recommended width of the wheels to be used, usually a range of 2-3 inches, stay in the range but go to the limits upper or lower for the desried look.
I prefer the skinny look so I go on the narrower side and sometimes even a bit lower for better bead retention with no bead locks.

So as far as how side the ride will be, a smaller rim will be a softer ride?

I went with a 10" wide rim to keep the 15.5" wide Swamper "under" the wheel well. If a 12" rim, with the same backspacing, was used, the tire would have stuck out of the wheel well another 2".

These are 38x15.5 Swamper Radials on 16.5x10" rims. I don't remember the backspacing, sorry.

Does anyone know what backspacing id need for a 35x12.5 tire? Assuming I went with a 15 or 16 inch wheel thats 10 inches wide, I like the wide look on the tire.
