I know this doesn't sound like an important topic, but I am sitting here now reminded that my hair is slowly sliding off my head by the pain on my forehead. I was hoping to rely on the experience that you all have on what hat is best for wheeling. Here is what I have had so far. Baseball cap, Pro: protects forehead semi wind resistant, Con: leaves ears and neck open for burning. Straw cowboy hat, Pro: gives that here to party look, protects forehead, ears and neck, Con: not wind proof, exposes underarm to burns while walking around with your hand holding onto hat to keep it on. Boonie hat, Pro: protects forehead, ears and neck, Con: Same wind proof problems as the cowboy hat. I could just go sun screen but sure as hell I sweat and it drips in my eyes. I need suggestions.

Go with the boonie hat, and get one that has a strap you can tighten up to keep it from flying off. I use my old military boonie hats and they really get the job done.

Sunscreen and a headband might also do the trick.

Lumberjack hat.

Pros: Be a badass. Forehead, ear, partial neck protection.
Cons: So awesome, it'll attract a swarm of ladies. Which will slow you down and prevent optimal wheelin' time. Not sure if actually a con.....

Like a red white and blue 80s sweat band with matching wrist bands?

just wear my old beat up land shark baseball cap,it is really my boating hat,but wear it wheelin too,had to fish out of the water on nunerous occasions though

This. Keeps sun and rain off you neck and shoulders, you can dance around it and you can use it to serve chips around the camp fire.

Good old fashioned English pith helmet. Full brim protection, and weighs enough to stay in place. Plus a little more rollover protection if you find yourself seeing thing upside down.

Let them beach bums Kenny and jimmy have the straw hats, mickey and goofy rocked the pith.

My vote is for the boonie - cheap, readily available, easily folds up to store in a pocket or glove compartment, no worries about having the brim perfectly shaped, full ear and neck protection, can be used as an emergency water carrier, can be soaked in water and worn wet to help keep you cool, comes with a chin strap to cinch it to your head in windy weather, and when frozen stiff can be used as an entertaining frisbee. Buy it a size big and you can wear a bandanna underneath for extra versatility.

Cowboy hats work well, minus the folding/small storage part. I look like a dork in a cowboy hat, so I go with the boonie. Still dorky, but less so.

That's full-on Marlon Perkins on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom right there. Showing my age.

I suspect I look like a dork in anything, but as a ginger with paper white skin, I hafta say the boonie is my preference. Plus I got one in blue camo to match my truck :haha: Now if I was driving an old Land Rover, especially one in tiger stripes and the spare tyre on the bonnet ... pith helmet it would be! :D

I'm on the boonie hat bandwagon....gets the job done without worrying what to do with it when you don't want to wear it anymore, cram it in a corner, under your seat, whatever.

Fez are cool.

(That's a Doctor Who-ism, Martin, and not in any way a fashion statement on my part. Not like I'm a slave to fashion, as at this moment I'm wearing forest camo cargo shorts and a red Hawaiian shirt.)
