Well, i replaced my motor and have almost 800miles on it. when can i swap over to mobile one full synthetic???? should i wait till like 3k miles, or do it at 1k miles??? i've heard both before. i've been running 10w30 valvoline till now and i changed the oil after the 50mile break-in...then after 100 more miles.....i want this motor to last FOREVER haha, so i want the best for my motor. thanks guys

On my Chevy crate motor it didn't stop using oil until 17K miles were on it. That's when the rings finally seated I guess. Also don't expect your engine to last forever just because you use synthetic. Your engine still gets wear. With plain old good oil, it is not uncommon to get more than 200,000K out of them. In any case don't use synthetic for a good while--better error on the side of using regular oil longer than you absolutely have to, other wise your rings might not seat good enough.

Mobil one is no longer full synthetic . Even though the bottle say's so. Only True Synthetic's are Amsoil , and Redline . :o

Hey I did see your truck one day

You were at the bank by scott paint and pleasent rv park. Down the street from lowes

FWIW....I put Mobil 1 in my new crate motor on day 1...ran it 50 miles, changed it and the filter, ran it another 500 and passed the sniffer with flying colors. Now I'm 2 1/2 years down the road w/16,871 as of about 30 minutes ago w/fresh Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 filter and passed my sniffer last month with virtually the same numbers as the previous 2 sniffers. Doesn't burn or drip a drop between changes.

My Vette came with Mobil1 and filter from the factory. My wife's Altima got M1 and filter the day I brought it home w/13 miles on it and with 70K it doesn't use a drop.

I'd say run what you want in it as long as you change it religiously and never use Fram filters.

nowadays, anything can be called synthetic thanks to the castrol lawsuit.

you have to be careful and read the literature.. some amsoil products are just like mobil one now, in that they are group II or III mineral oil with solvents.. royal purple is PAO /ester ( esters counter the seal shrinking characteristics of the PAO ) blended with solvents just like everybody else, and redline is ester.

As for mobil one, rusty bucket is correct, they're taking the cheap way out now too.. the amounts of PAO are going down, while the amount of cheap petroleum fillers are going up..

something else.. when the oil companies say that " they're formulated to meet the tough 2007 standards" , all that means is that the zddp & phosphorus have been removed per the EPA.. those are your anti wear & anti scuff ingredients.. or should I say "were" your anti wear and anti scuff ingredients.

To answer the point of the thread, I'd recommend going 3k with the cheap oil, so the rings seat and any bearing material gets flushed out of there.. then PM me if you're serious about that engine lasting forever..

x2 definitely let the engine break in with non synthetic then switch if thats what your going to do. Also if you ever run total seal rings they require that you let the engine break in with regular oil then switch otherwise you void their warranty
