When did they raise the speed limit to 85mph???

I know this is a little "off topic" but I was wondering if people where you live EVER drive at 65 mph like they are suppossed to??.I go to my sisters a lot in a small town abot 70 miles away,about 55 of them are on interstate 495--I got home in 45 minites today just trying to keep from getting run over by tractor trailers and fool in their SUV's sipping dunkin donuts coffe with one hand and the damm cellphone in the other(I'd like to kill the moron who thought it would be a good thing to talk on a phone in a moving vehicle,and I bet insurance companies would too!).I pretty much have to use moms caravan for this chore,because most of my vehicles have a hard time even getting to 80mph--never mind holding it there for any distance.I might have to get a newer vehicle--people around here think your 25 year old heap will stop and handle as well as their 2004 yuppiemobiles--they dont!.
I saw a horriffic wreck the other day on the mass pike,2 tractor trailers collided near 495,one of them was a tandem job(suicide rigs if you ask me)and the other was a 53 footer.Both trucks caught fire,one driver was barbequed in the cab of his rig--it tore the 53 foot box right off the frame of the trailer,and debris was scatterred everywhere on both sides of the road.They had to use huge bucket loaders to clear the wreckage,traffic was at a standstll most of the day,backed up all the way to springfield mass--but today everyone is right back to their old habits,and I didnt see 1 state trooper the whole ride(a good thing,because I was as guilty as the rest /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif,not that I wanted to speed,I just wanted to stay ALIVE!).But I think they should enforce the laws more--seems lately all the cops do is hide somewhere until a wreck happens,then they go sweep up the carnage. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif I'd like to be able to go somwhere safely for once--if you drive 65 around here,you'd better have a ramp on the back of your car,cuz there going over you! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

This belongs in the lounge I think. Anyway , I agree with you. I drive slightly over, like 9 over on freeway ( in our new car only , Blazer gets babied no over 70 ) and 5 over in town . What I do when I see some blatant speeder coming up is change lanes to slow them up , just to p&%$& them off. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif
 
The speed limit with a trailer in Calif is 55.. I was driveing up I5 with a empty traler.. I tried just doing 55.. I was getting honked at and flipped off by every single care.. I finally had to kick it up to 70 just to stay out of peoples way.. This is a 4 lane highway too..

I never speed when I'm in my semi, I get paid by the hour. In my pick-up (a '95) I speed a little, but not too bad. Things aren't as fast paced out here in the fields of Illinois, so there are fewer speeders.
 
I usually go with the flow of traffic.I know the last time I went to Lauglin N.V we were going 95mph and people were pasing us left and right. And the speed limit was 75mph
 
I know the road, we use to go to Bullhead and drive about 95-100 mph and people would pass us. They must have been doing 110-115mph. isn't that the truth. I hate that that stretch of the highway, yeah they just want to get to the Casino's faster including myself /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

I was wondering why there was so much traffic backed up down rt.57 in Agawam, MA. I thought it was just because they're working on the "south end" rt.5 bridge /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

Raynham is exactly 100 miles from springfield,its about halfway between providence ri and plymouth mass.This place has gone nutzo in the past few years our population here has tripled,and the largest Super Wal-Mart(I call it Greed-Mart)in new england is less than a mile from me,can you say gridlock boys and girls--now they want to build another one five miles away on the other side of town.I'm seriously looking to move,I'd love to move to TN--I'm bumming because I couldnt go there this week because the truck I was going to use developed a rap.I read in the lounge that TN is one of the best liked places to live---here where I am aint worth squat if you ask me,overpopulated,overtaxed,and overpriced.Good place to grow an ulcer--or if you want a job at wal mart!.And by the way DO you have to be orange to post in the lounge??.I saw some blue posts,but nothing happens if I hit "reply" /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I'm soory if I am a pain in the asre here--I know I probably post too much as it is--but this place is very addictive! /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif
 
Dude...no problem with your posts!

Average speed here in So Cal (when there isnt any traffic) is about 80 on the freeways and 50-60 on the streets.

I cruze my motorhome around 60ish in the right and let everyone else go around me. Most to the Big Rigs will run 55-60, some will push it to 65.

If im in the Firehawk, I can hardly keep it below 80 because thats where she likes to run on the highway, The Blazer, 65-70. If you do 55 and are not a Big Truck, they'll just about push you off the road. Its not so bad when your in the right lane going slow but if you reeeealy want to piss people off, go 60-65 in the left or carpool lanes

Yeah I know how that goes, course all the highways around where i live are 55. Everyone goes 65-70. And I usually take backroads to school just for the heck of it. I got passed by a semi the other day that had to of been doing in excess of 85 MPH thats just nuts. And when I do get stuck in the middle of a bunch it sucks. My pickup is pretty long legged but it doesnt like to hold that kind of speed for 40 or 50 miles. And my Blazer ha forget that thing...that [explicit deleted] rig if i bring it up to 80 for a mile or two the SES light comes on and the motor is robbed of ungodly amounts of power and I have trouble holding 55.

Another thing is with these gas prices you think the majority of people would slow down...if anything they have spend up it seems like... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif just my 2 cents
 
If you don't like it, stay off the expressway. I'm sure everyone will appreciate it including you. While people that excessively speed (more than 10mph than the posted speed limit) irritate me slow people that don't pay attention irritate me more. I regularly find people going the speedlimit or five under running the hammer lane. If they're lucky I won't scare them too bad. If they're unlucky I'll ride them until they get in the slow lane or piss their pants. Nobody has a deathwish so you don't have to worry about someone standing on their brakes. If someone is being a real assclown I'll call 1-800-44-TRASH on their punkasses.

It's the people that go 5-10 under the scare me most. I'd rather have someone around me going 85-90 than 60-65. The 60-65 people just don't pay attention, merge without warning, go into your lane without warning to pass someone going .7mph slower than them and take four miles to do it, and often will pass you and slow down because they can't stand not being able to see around you.

While I agree that people that speed excessively and don't pay attention are dangerous... so are the people that go too slow. If they aren't going to go the speedlimit get off the fawkin' expressway or ride the bus.

Unfortunately I will probably be alive a long time , most of us regular folks have to live to put up with other people for a loooooooooooooong time /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

No big deal to me either, was just saying that because of some of the posts I see get moved into there . I spend most of time in the garage anyway . Never wanted to rock a boat /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
 
I commute 200 miles a day and set the cruise at 80-85 for most of the trip. I drink coffee while I'm driving in the morning... SOmetimes I talk on the phone too, but not while I'm drinking coffee. /forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif I get 42MPG at those speeds too, so that's not really an issue for me... /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif
 
What's a speed limit? I go as fast as I want and if I really want to get on the gas, I just turn my disco lights and cool horn on. I usually only do that when I'm late for the shift briefing down at the donut shop............

I resent the fact that I would have to be meek on the possibility of some idiot putting a gun in my face.

Anyway, I am willing to sacrifice a door and window to put a few slugs in anyone standing at the side of my truck with a weapon

What I mean is, a lot of people on CK5 carry
