... to never have to worry about inspection or registration again.

I'm partially joking, but there must be some state in this union that has little to no property tax that I can buy some wicked cheap acreage in and register my rusty junk.

Maybe if it's a place with mountains I can even throw up a yurt to add legitimacy to the registration of said rusty car that only drives around the city of Boston.

I grew up outside Boston. I feel your pain. I live in Wyoming now, no inspection, no lift laws, rust free trucks, no income tax, low property tax and lots of cheap land. I can see snow capped mountains out my window and my daily driver has 37's. Boston's a great city but I could never live there now. I have been converted to mountain life and couldn't be happier.

My daily driver has 37s. I just got a sticker the other day. My mom traded some sox tickets for it with the station attendant she knows. It's just always an annoying hoop. I also don't want to bring the Blazer to the same guy and be like "heyyy, you know how you just passed my giant red truck, well how about a sticker for this other rusty truck I have with broken seat belts, holes in the floor, dents, broken glass, no real bumpers, and let's just ignore the 6 inch lift."

I love mountain life. I actually have a place up in Maine, but their laws are worse than mass. Also, they know what to look for up there. Mass cops don't really know the lift laws. If you have an inspection sticker, you're good to go.

Only 17 states out 50 even have vehicle inspection. Only about half have emissions testing.

Vehicle inspection laws by state:
Blue: Periodic safety inspection required
Light Blue: Safety inspection required upon sale or transfer
Green: Safety inspection required when registering a vehicle from another jurisdiction
Yellow: Emissions testing required in some areas
Brown: Emissions testing required in all areas
Gray: No inspection required

Check out Searchlight, NV. About an hour or so out of Vegas, middle of nothing, and they don't do any checks of any kind.

Luke, that's a real cool map. Thanks for posting that up.

We used to play all those games for inspections when I lived in mass. There was a guy with a dealership that would hook up club jeeps, he was cool. I had my first square registered at a super high gvw to avoid emissions. I also had a friend who would do inspections on lifted trucks on the weekend when the boss was gone.
I don't really condone unsafe trucks but a cracked windshield on a trail rig shouldn't stop you from being able to drive it to the trails. Not that there are many real trails left in mass. I heard from some guys back there last year and DNR tried to ticket them all for not wearing helmets in their jeeps on state land. They were going by atv rules since they were on a dirt trail. Insane!

Yea, I'm exaggeration a bit when it comes to my blazer being unsafe. I just know that is every other persons perspective because it's not a Honda Civic or a Prius. I only have 35s on the blazer, but around here that's a monster truck.

I haven't been on a "trail" in Mass in probably 6 years?

Yeah, I was running 35's on a long bed square and it was definitely not legal there. My wrangler on 33's was considered as big as you could go without being pulled over daily, and it still wouldn't pass inspection. Now I am building a K5 with 40's in mind and wondering if they are really big enough. 42's ?

Don't come to Colorado! Legal Weed has put a boom on people from out of state moving in to take advantage of using weed, growing weed or selling weed. Legally or illegally too. Developers are buying up land with water rights just to grow the stuff. They are doing this all over. Illegal growers are buying cheap houses or renting them and putting huge grow operations in basements and garages. There's a bust of an illegal grow here every other week down here. Seems like the skunk-like odor and massive power consumption are dead giveaways to the grow operations.

Getting the weed freaks out of the way as the map shows we don't have state inspections. The front range counties from El Paso county (Colorado Springs) to Larimer county (Ft. Collins) do have emissions testing. The main issue we have is stupidly high registration costs based on taxable value. We actually see residents registering RV's and similar high-cost items in North and South Dakota to avoid the registration costs. If all you are trying to do is skirt the system and not move, one of the other states may be more practical. If you actually want to move you got lots of choices.

Weed is getting close to being legal in most of New England. We don't seem to have that same migration or "weed freak" phenomenon so to say. There are just people here that like to smoke weed. There hasn't been any noticeable transition with the shift in legislation in my observation. People now are just like, I'm super glad I can't go to jail for smoking weed once in awhile.

In my couple trips out west I feel like the sentiment in that particular population is rather immature. It reminds me of the kid who showed up at college without ever having a beer and decided to drink a 30 rack and pass out in a pool of his own vomit on the first night.

Michigan has no inspection, and reasonable registration, cheap land, but horrific insurance rates!

Rich, inspection stations around the city don't usually deal with lifted trucks (especially in Eastie) maybe you can find a place out in Western Mass that's a bit more lenient?

New Hampshire also has cheaper registration than mass and generally more laxed laws. The only lift law is bumper height is a maximum 30".

You could declare yourself an illegal alien, then you could do anything you want, drive around with NO insurance, plates, inspection sticker, and as long as your in a "sanctuary city",the law cant touch you..or so it seems anyways, especially when it comes to drug distribution in MA..

Wisconsin has all of the above without the nasty insurance rates! : haha:

Though Milwaukee does have emissions testing, the rest of the state is free.

If you pick a dead enough town, the land gets nearly free! ;)
