Where do I find a Mexican Blazer?

If it was so easy, why doesn't GM just offer them here? Or Volkswagen, or anyone else for that matter?

Marketability... We can sit here on a truck site and say how great it'd be to have a 2-door Tahoe, or new "K5"... but I bet the overall marketplace has decided it wasn't necessary. How many soccer moms would drive a 2-door when it's so much easier to get the kids in and out of a 4-door?

Same thing with small diesel-powered trucks. We can be a bit biased because of the things we here on CK5 are interested in, but a lot of folks here in the USA have bad misconceptions about diesels. They probably think of things like diesel VW Rabbits and those Mercedes sedans. Poor acceleration, the whole back of the car is often covered in black soot...then you have things like the 350ci GM diesel (epic failure) that don't help American perception either...

Honestly, I felt the same way until I became more educated about diesels.

I believe the people's opinions regarding diesel here in the states is coming around, but overall, if the automakers saw a profit in offereing those models, they would have done it already.

What all of you are forgetting is California, the bain of our emission standards remember the 70's and 80's different emissions for them and the rest of the U.S. Also if the auto makers can save a dollar a car by doing something that they don't have to do in the U.S. like a OB-II or a wing nut they aren't going to do it. Just in price of steel for the frames if we require the frames to be "X" size and the rest of the world doesn't care, they are not going to care.

However that four cylinder Colorado that was in Taiwan would be way cool.

Marketability?

Again, if these vehicles were so similar to ours, gm would send a few to the US for crash/emissions testing, add on whatever was needed to meet federal/state regs, and import them.

That would be an absolute windfall for GM because the vehicle is already in production...even a few units sold would cover a "small" expense to meet our regs. Marketed or not, they'd sell a few.

It's total BS. i have been told an Avalanch like GM existed in the 67-72 era in Mexico as well. Was talking to a guy that had a brocure on them. They have had 5500 Dodges down there for a few years and we just got them .

I agree that it shouldn't/wouldn't/couldn't be hard to put them into production here... But I doubt GM is looking to sell a *few* of anything.

It is all about cost; profit/loss, what will sell. Most people are not enthusiasts, even if they want to be. Especially with the current economy. GM decided that they would not sell enough of them to offset the money required to do so. Emission tests, crash tests, space on the showroom floor, and marking all cost, and the American auto makers are not rolling in dough right now.

There is lots of stuff in other countries we don't get. Australia is a great example for cool Toyotas, but even Western Europe got the short wheel base 70 series Land Cruisers, that I can't seem to find my picture of right now. Don't forget the Land Rover D90 that we only got for a few years, and the D110 & D130 we never got.

Here 2 D110s on the same side street in Valladolid.

South America got other trucks we didn't, too. I remember seeing one like the Dodge in Tijuana in '98. But IIRC it only had one big back window per side.

There are lots of crew cab mini trucks further south. I saw these two in Santiago. The first was a new Chevy LUV, the other an older Nissan.

I wish I got a better pic of one of the Chevy Troopers I saw.

I'm still trying to find a tailgate like this.

They are everywhere down south of the boarder, but none here.

Hijack:

Yeah Australia does have some sweet rides we can't get / never got. I like that they have had the option for double cab toyota trucks (hilux) for a long time. I have a couple of pics of them.. 1 is an 81 version, and the other an 85 version. I also like the the 79 series Land Cruiser, which now has a diesel v8 and still carries a solid front axle.

I'd love have some of these as options for a DD.

Correction: there are very VERY few here. They were offered -- legally, new -- only for 1993, as the D110 NAS, "North American Spec." They came from the factory with an exocage, presumably to meet crash standards. All were white in color. Google for them, some info out there.

In Az, you can register a buggy but it doesnt need a jeep grill. It just has to be made street legal. IE brake lights, tail lights, windshield, horn, turn sginals etc. And, it will state on the title that its a homemade vehicle, but you can name it what ever you want. And, last I knew you could register a few mexican vehicles here, but they either had to be the same model as the american made version, or made in an american plant and transported to mexico. Tons of wrecking yards down in Nogalas that crush brand new vehicles that were seized and cant be sold. LAst time I was there I watched them cut up two new porsche SUVs, some nice lifted trucks, a few lobos (mexican f150) and two little mexican made trucks that I hadnt seen before.

saw a wierd looking 67-72 from mexico.. thought it fit in this thread:D

That bed in my eyes looks like a modified ford bed. I know fords had beds with a seam down the middle like that and the rear wheel opening looks simular to 66-77 ford bronco wheel opening. Yep looks like a ford lower bed side witha differnt top half to match the chevy AND those taillights look simular to some older fords I cant pinpoint.
