I can't seem to find a good 12v source that isn't constantly on. Where do you guys have your hooked up? I'm just looking for ideas. Thank ahead for the help :)

Find yourself one of the fuses in the fuse block that is only HOT with the key on and then you can use a "jumper" to attach to that circuit (make sure you're on the fused side of the circuit though).

Looks like I'm going to have to run a long ass wire inside the cab then right? What amp fuse do you think I should tap into?

use a meter or a test light, find one that comes on with the key..tap into it.

You may even have some spare ACC taps in the fuse block...

I wired electric chokes on my 70's trucks to the light green wire rthat once powered the idle stop solenoid,it only gets 12V when the key is "ON" only,and it was very conveniently located...

I would NOT hook a choke to the 12V hot wire for the HEI as it'll rob some juice and it needs a full 12V to work properly..if you do use one of the taps in the fuse box,be sure that power is only available with the key "ON" only,and NOT in the "ACC" position--otherwise if your sitting parked listening to the radio with the key on "ACC",your choke will be "on" too,and when you go to start it the butterfly will be wide open--that could be a problem in colder weather,not to mention the drain on the battery..

i piggybacked mine onto the coil wire.been that way for 10 years with no problems.choke doesnt use too much energy so it doesnt take much away from the ignition.maybe easiest way to do it.i never heard that it was a bad thing to do.having it run into the cab and into the fuse box would work too if you are worried about it taking away from the coil.mine had a xtra open plug you can wire into in the fuse panel that was not being used.

It is never a good idea to run the choke power wire off the coil. Even the Holley website states that it draws too much power and will starve the ignition. I'm just hoping this solves the issue with my fast idle cam sticking open.

if it's the 86 in your sig, I "think" there is a choke app in the fuse block....:thinking:

I can't remember....lemme go look...yep, it has a 20A fuse in it...

There is also a "spare" IGN spot and an ACC spot available. btw, I have an 86 burb.

Like I said,mines been like that 4 years.never thought it would use enough power 2 starve the coil.guess I should rewire that one different myself.sorry 4 the misinformation.do as others have said as will I and hang my head in shame.lol.

Oh cool! I'll have to go take a look. Does it say choke on it? lol

lol Yes it does...:whistle::haha:

I do it allll the time..

them...."sign here"

me....where?

them ...where it says sign!:doah::doah:

Why not wire it through the oil pressure switch? Then if the key is on while the engine isn't running, you don't open the choke before you start it. Also, the choke coil isn't draining the battery when the engine isn't running.

That's not a bad idea, I haven't had a chance to look at the fuse block yet for the "choke" plug. Where is the oil pressure switch? Do I even have one? lol

Damn server killed my posts.

I found the slot for the choke on the block. Can't seem to find the color wire so I can trace it back out. I haven't found the oil pressure switch either yet. My parts guy recommended wiring it to the voltage regulator since that's an ignition hot as well. I guess his Ford is wired like that stock. Just not sure which wire to tap into.

I lost the power that the choke was wired to.:dunno:
So I tapped into the wire for the heater blower motor, it is only on when the key is on,and it is close. So now I got power but the choke still don`t work properly

I`ll figure that out later. :eek1:

If you hooked it up to the heater motor then I bet the choke works once you turn the heater on. :)
