I have 7 second generation body style GM trucks ranging from 1980 to 1991. When it rains, every single one has a leak from under the dash on the passenger side. I've searched high and low and can't find it.

I know you all have the same issue, anyone find where this is coming from?

Thanks,

Eric M.

Hello. Look 1-aroud your winshield 2-the sealing rubber piece by the hood hinge 3-under the hood, loock at the heater and A/C box. I've had similar leeks and this fix's so far taken care of then. Good luck

Mine has that too and it is from the lower passenger side of the windshield. I noticed water collecting there after the last rain.

Just 1 step closer to a full buggy:D

Lower windshield frame/seal
heater blower area
cowl area somehow.

Mine leaks there too, but only in a very heavy rain. I assumed it was coming in at the lower corner of the windshield, but never looked into it yet.

leak

I have seen in the past a leak from the kick panel. There is a blend door in the passenger side kick panel they are vacum on a/c trucks and manual on non ac trucks.

If you remove that panel there is a whole that the blend door sits in cut into the side of the kick panel. This opens up to the cowl area. On the back side of the plastic panel there is a foam seal that keeps water from coming in.

I have seen the foam either be hard or when they were installed/re installed get torn or torn completely off. The water will run behind the kick panel and get the carpet wet.

Hope that helps.

My 87 does this too. I completely redid the body/floorpans this last fall and was dissapointed to find the same problem on my pass side. I had not yet replaced the cowl vent panels and was able to stuff myself up under the dash during a rainstorm to look for the leak. Turns out my leak is from the windshield gasket at the bottom most corner. The gasket has shrunk over the years and does not fit tight to the "curve". I expieremented with duct tape at that point and it eliminated the leak. I guess the correct fix is a new windshield gasket unless someone knows of a new "wizbang" sealing compound that works and is easily removed when the time comes to fix it right.

Sounds like most are saying it's the lower corner of the windshield on the passenger side. On a few of my trucks, I have new windshield gaskets. The new gasket didn't solve the problem on any of my trucks, but, I never sealed the gasket to the windshield from or window as the shop manual suggests. I'm wondering if I (we) need to run a bead of some sort of sealer around the windshield gasket to the metal frame?

Who's gonna go first?

Are yall referring to "flowable" silicon? I 've used it with great sruccess.

My K30 seems to be the opposite of everyone elses leak.

My leak comes from the passenger side also, but not at anywhere at the bottom of the weatherstrip.
Its leaking at the top of the weatherstrip, on the passenger side approximately dead center of the sunvisor.

Whenever it rains, it drips from up there onto the floor mat. My option is to just wait til I'm ready to tear the truck down to restore it and figure something else out later.

Ahhh.... mysterious passenger floor wetness...

I've been a victim of this with 3 myself... multiple times... never positive what the cause was.

If I park my suburban facing down my driveway (steep angle), the floor doesn't get wet in a rain. Makes sense I guess... depending on where that damn leak is coming from!
