I need pinion bearings for my Dana 60. My local bearing store is CRAZY over priced. Where is the best place to buy them on line?

Martin

I've bought from ORD before. I was just checking who other people recommended.

last time few months ago I needed stuff you couldn't hardly touch rockauto prices on name brand stuff.

I buy a lot of my parts from rock auto.

So do I.
I work at Autozone part time to get a 20% discount. But most of the time Rockauto is cheaper after shipping than I could get it from work with a discount, and it's better brand stuff. I just got EVERYTHING for my A/C system from Rockauto and it was $100 cheaper than I could get it from work and it was all AcDelco, not the everco or whatever brand we have.

and autozone dropped or lost the timkin line . so its all china crap now . last time I was there I looked at a duralast bearing . it didn't even have a origin mark on it it was so cheep . so if it falls out of the box how in the heck do you know what # it was even if here is other no boxed bearings / races .

like I said rockauto is now my main source / ebay / amazon .

a few years ago I needed front wheel bearings for the 02 Tahoe, found Timkens for $100 each on Rockauto. Checked Autozone, same bearing was $207 each. Sometimes I can wait for parts, that was ones of those occasions.

I think Timken was sold off to Moog, who is now having some parts made in China ..

I’ve had the best luck finding bearings made in acceptable countries from various industrial supply companies - I use Motion Industries Inc. but if ya don’t have one of those local find out who is the supplier chain in your area.

Word of caution - most industrial shops don’t give a damn about the retail customers that walk in the front door and especially the automotive crowd with no part numbers. Folks that say “I need a bearing for my old Ford pickup” usually get told they don’t sell automotive bearings just to get them outta their hair or they get charged deep rape fees at the register.

Go in with the bearings ( cup & cone ) and seals ( get options of better seal materials like Viton ), and always bring in every radial ball bearings so they can mic them and verify if it’s a “Maximum Capacity” v/s standard stuff, ( all cleaned up already ) or better yet have the numbers written down if possible.
A good counter/tech guy can tell you the various name brands and countries of origin to give options - sad to say but the better stuff is premium priced.

Getting to know and being accepted by a good industrial parts house tech/counter sales guy is a great benefit.

If you are working on the D60 R&P & carrier bearings the numbers are:

Differential carrier cone - 387A
Differential carrier cup - 382S

Outer Pinion Bearing: HM88542 /
HM88510
Inner Pinion Bearing: HM803146 /
HM803110

I've used Motion Industries many times in the past. I guess I've been very lucky with helpful people. There's even one in the Lynchburg VA area that was not set up for counter sales at all, but the guy still found and ordered bearings for me.

Rockauto and timken .
Careful - not all Timken Bearings are made in reputable countries.
The last Timken bearing tech seminar that I attended ( many moons ago ) they had over forty countries with multiple plants in each producing bearings - and China and their friends were a major producer.

It’s gett’n harder and harder to locate the better and more trustworthy quality control made stuff; even from trusted name brands. Country of origin is still printed on each box.
