Where to buy tires anymore?

Find a deal online and ask your local place to match. Make sure you include the shipping costs. I haven't been turned away yet.

I've found this to be the exact opposite around here. I got quotes from TireRack, Discount Tire and Summit; most of the local (smaller) businesses just laughed and said they couldn't get anywhere near those prices. One guy actually got angry and told me it was an insult to bring those quotes in to his shop. That's also not to mention that every single place in town said they would charge more to mount & balance if I didn't buy the tires from them.

I understand that it's hard to compete with the low overhead of online businesses but the price differences I was seeing were upwards of 100 bucks a tire ($300 to $400 more for a set) and these were for common brands/sizes, not some obscure or specialty tire.

I got so fed up with it I've been putting off the 8-lug wheel/tire shopping for weeks.

Sounds like here.

I had one shop argue with me and basically tell me I'm dumb and they're the tire experts because they said a set of tires I had for the wife's Suzuki 4x4 wouldn't fit. I pointed out I knew about 6 people running the same size tire on the same vehicle. Nope, they were the experts.

Drove across town to the guys I favor (long story as to why I was at the first place) and they plunked them on and guess what? They fit!

Like I said earlier, I've bought 1 set of tire locally in 5 years. Of course, they have plenty of rich yuppies with no sense to suck money off of so none of the local tire places are hurting. You see those little green nitrogen tire caps everywhere.

Woot!

Just called a guy who was at the Jeep Blessing in Mesick back in May. He has the GT Saverio Radial MT's. Kind of an unknown here in the States but were very popular in Australia and New Zealand 1999-2001 when I was dabbling in the 4x4 circles over there. He's saying $119 a tire plus tax. That's like $503 mounted and balanced on the rims. Not bad at all!
Downside is he's in Cadillac an hour from here but still his price makes the drive worth it.

I called the local guys I like and they said $700 plus tax mounted and balanced for the Wild Country RVT muds. Ouch. They do good work and they're great guys but ouch. Then again I'm sure they had 5 yuppies who didn't have a clue in there today buying tires so it all evens out.

I do prefer the small local shops...

My guy has very reasonable prices, and is even willing to negotiate on them. He gives out lotsa freebies (tire patching, lug nuts, etc).

I tried Googleing the GT Saverio Radial MT's, came up dry. they have a website? sounds like a screamin deal!
I'm spelling it wrong. GT Savero Radial MT's.

This guy on CarDomain has them on his Tacoma:

Looks like they've modernized the tires a bit since I was around them.
Found the official website but looks like they haven't updated the info:

Seems to me like they must be pushing these in the market now. When I was first hearing of them 99-01 the brand was almost unheard of here in the States. Then the car tires became common. Now after looking around I'm seeing links to vehicles with them here and random tire shops selling them here. This guy was for sure selling them cheap at the Jeep Blessing. He says folks love them and the price is low so that makes it even better.
