Where to get the best cowl hood

I also have bought a stepside tailgate.
I can say you can't tell a difference from a stock to a lmc one. I know it's just a tailgate but fittment was perfect on that.

Good to know! I have been holding off because my doors were so horrible.... maybe it was just a bad batch or maybe doors are harder to get right?

Never bought a lmc door, but I have always heard to stay away from the doors and front fenders. :dunno:

Yes this is true! I did fenders for my 73 they were awful and doors on this 78 so thats why i have a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to lmc. but if others are having success with specific parts im willing to look at them.

Sorry, I spaced it and forgot to take any pictures of my truck. Probably wouldn't turn out really well due to the poor lighting in the barn it's sitting in.
Probably in a few weeks I'll be getting into my shop for the winter. I should be able to post up then.

I'm trying to avoid buying a hood that fits like this one ;)

image.jpg My hood came from VFN fiberglass in Addison, il a Chicago suburb. It is almost too heavy for racing. Well made and still the same price after 15 years. $450 for bolt on $315 for hood pins.

Wow thats a fine looking vehicle! I have heard so many mixed reviews on fiberglass. perhaps i'll do more research. did you have to do a bunch of finish work to it to make it perfect before paint?

Not much prep was needed, the glass was really good, but it's a race car.

UGH, I went to order a tailgate from LMC and it looks like they arent currently carring them. where is the next best place to get a tailgate? I keep seeing skins but no tailgates exept from brothers trucks but they are way expensive. anyone have suggestions or any experence with body parts from brothers?

Good to know LMC and most these other cheaper placer were all getting their tailgates from the same place. i figure this because everyone is out of stock with at least a 3 month wait.
If you are itching to pull the trigger, and brother's is your only option. Wait just a couple more days. I received an email that they are having "HUGE DISCOUNTS" from the 25th-28th for Black Friday. It didn't specify what will be on sale, but they tend to have high prices, and then huge discounts on many items. Maybe you'll get lucky?

click my 2 wheel burn link in my sig line .

post 309 / 543 / 568 / 576 / 580 . . . . that's about the best fit we could get at the end pics .

as said before none are as good as stock gm original hoods . . . but since none were made by gm for our trucks this is darn close.

Oh yeah I do all my major shopping on black friday. hood and tailgate will both be purchased on friday or next weekend. I seriously cant find a tailgate anywhere but brothers... everyone else is out of stock. i also cant find reviews on brothers tailgates.... i suppose i'll have to be the first review unless someone finds me a rust free factory tailgate ';)

Wow good looking truck! do you like the cowl? no matter what i have to replace the hood, or cut the front off the stock hood and replace that. seems harder and more expensive than just replacing it. What brand did you get? I thin I am getting this one:

thanks on truck .

brand ? ? ? you missed it first pic on post 309 was the box . . . . . goodmark

as to the hood I am happy with it at this point . still got to finish the truck yet.

Man after going back and forth a million times I'm thinking I should leave it factory finish and go with a stock style hood. now I see two options. the AMD hood or a sherman. the Sherman is as much as a cowl hood but they claim "an exact factory fit" where the cheap one says "a good fit " excessive gaps would drive me nuts! anyone know anything about sherman ? are they worth the extra money? I do not want to cheap out on this. sherman :https://m.summitracing.com/parts/shi-898-28
