Well i just got all my cb stuff today- dual 4' firestik's and a cobra 29wxnwst. Im starting to hook it all up, got the antenna's mounted up right behind the cab, but i cant decide/ find a good place to mount up the cb:confused:

Where do you all have your cb's mounted???? pics would be great.

Thanks brad

My buddy had it under his seat with the dials visible if he looked to his right and down. It really worked pretty well. I am going to put mine in my tuffy console. What kind should I get and why?

I always mounted mine right underneath the fold down ashtray on the dashboard. I took out the two screws the mounted the ashtray to the dashboard at the bottom of the painted area, and I bolted up the bracket using those bolts. Looks nice and clean. Its almost like chevy knew something would be mounted there. Even if you keep your ashtray down it looks good. Access to wiring is nice too.

CB mount

I mounted my CB directly under the stereo. I have exactly the same set up as you and it is very convenient under the dash.

hands down, the BEST spot for it, short of mounting it into the dash pad just above the ashtray. IIRC a 29 has the mic connector on the side, like my PC66 does. this wont like being flush mounted like that very well.

i tried that. kept getting my mic cord wrapped around my foot, hitting my knee, and wrapping the mic around the accelerator pedal. :doah:

I was looking at mounting it by the ash tray but it would almost be rubbing on the 4x shifter and i like resting my foot in front of the 4x shifter when its along drive.

I like the look of it mounted to the roof above the rear view. Im thinking about making a small box to mount to the roof and then mount the cb, and a few swithces to it. And either cutting down or replacing the stock sun visors

Prolly easier for those of us with earlier model shifters, or doublers with the sticks pushed back... I betcha with a '208 style shifter you'd be in trouble more... but here's my junk.

Though I hafta admit, I kinda like what Dontoe's done. It's tough to hang crap in a full-convert and do it well ... but dang, running wires around the roll cage, blah. Still, ... :)

Here how mine is mounted. It is in the factory stereo slot. I still need to fab a cover plate for it to smooth things out:D .

CB is a PC79elite. I have had no issues with the mic cord and my feet with this mounting.

I am planning on adding a CB ro my rig also.

I would like to mount it in the center console or in the dash somewhere.

its sideways i know. my cb is on a shelf (i think the shelf was a factory option? it matches the headliner perfect and everything, i duno) i like it where it is, its out of the way, and i can store stuff on the shelf as well:D

edit* you cant see it as well as i thought:doah:

My 74 K20 had a realistic CB mounted there, where an A/C duct would have been,if it had A/C...no cutting required,it fit perfect!...the newer "Uniden" mini CB's will just fit in that factory hole too!..I found it a very convenient spot for my CB,and I just put the hot wire to the one for the cigg lighter!..
..I had a scanner under the ash tray,so it wouldn't have fit there, and I'm 6'4" tall,so a ceiling mounted CB would have given me a headache,litterally!..--that spot is perfect for a stereo too..GM should have put them there factory--at least you can SEE it without taking your eyes off the road!....

Like on the newer pickups...
That's where they always put aftermarket head units and it works out great.

I went out and took some shots of my recent install, hopefully it helps, I haven't seen too many guys mount it here.
It clears the TC shifter even in 4wd and it swivels so if I hit it w/ the seat or something it doesn't break off. I went and got a strip of metal and bent it in the vice, then drilled holes in it and cut off the extra. Then screwed it into the transmission tunnel w/ two screws then bolted the cb in place. I also ran the wires under the seat and then under the carpet to the front to keep it clean and safe.

Tell me what you all think.

Thats an "interesting" dash cover :eek1: but i do like the C/B mount I'm assuming you don't have many middle seat passengers
