Hey guys,

Getting ready to do some more electrical mods to the burb.

Where do you order paired wire, like 2 16ga wires stuck together? Is it called paired, or do i have the wrong term?

I want to order some 16 or 18ga wire in 2 or 3 wire arrangement, but have no idea where to order it, and am having a hard time searching because i think i am calling it the wrong name.

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but could really use some direction.

Thanks guys! Happy 2010

Thanks guys! Do most of you order it, or find it local somewhere?

Does frys Electronics (Ca guys) carry anything that would work? Or tractor supply?

How long do you need it and does the color matter?

Color doesn't necessarily matter, but i am planning to get a larger quantity (50 or 100 ft probably), and i'm sure there are more projects like this in the future. Thinking i might order a 100' of 4 conductor 16ga, and then be able to split it down to 2 pairs of 2 conductors or use it as a full 4. Just ordered a 10 circuit fuse holder from summit, and already have 6 or so of them that will be used. Each will require some rewiring to clean it up, so want to have plenty of wire.

I was thinking of trailer wire since it is 4 wire and like you thought you could always split it however you wanted. I know you can buy that in bulk quantities.

A search turned up this place that seems to have a little of everything. They don't have pricing listed on their website though. http://www.electerm.com/wire.html

you could always run marine duplex..... best wire you can buy pretty much, and it comes in duplex, triplex, etc... not "splittable" per se, but a great way to run paired wire runs... I'll be using a fair amount on certain circuits in mine.....

comes in roles of 50', 100', etc... not overly cheap, but it's tinned killer wire.... usually available in red/blk or red/yellow...

Not a bad idea, ive actually used some that i've had kicking around for some projects. My main objection is the quality of the wire/insullation.

Ryoken, i've seen this a few places, and it seemed to be NICE wire. true, its not splittable, but i could always run 2 pairs of 2, or order some 4 strand.

Do most marine stores stock this stuff? Seems like ordering wire might not be the best $$$ choice for 100' and under. Westmarine maybe?

Thanks for the help guys!

yeah, west marines usually have it.... I'm not sure on quantity tho, in store...

here's west marines page on it.. they have 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 wire stuff...

like i said, not cheap, but high quality and if your gonna do any soldering, it's really nice cuz it's tinned already... for most it's probably pretty extravagant, but i get it at cost, and work leftovers, so for me it's the way to go alot of the times...

Price is bringing me back to your ideas scott. where have you seen trailer wiring in bulk?

Ok, so checked some local places.

Tractor supply had 25' of 4/16ga trailer wire for $20

Walmart had the same package for $11.

Your place IS cheaper, but after shipping, not sure how much. And its always nice to be able to buy smaller quantities.....25' length should get me where i need to go for the time being.

And if anyone sees more normal colored paired wire somewhere cheap, let me know!

Lesson: NEVER stop thinking about your projects.

Was just about to throw out a queen sized heater blanket (w/ dual controls) that i replaced, when i looked at the wire. Cut the controllers and plugs off, and ended up with 2x15' of 4/16ga , and 6' of 2/14ga.

I'll consider that a score!:D Almost ended up in the trash too....:doah:

Its all beige/white, but has a molded seam on one side, so not too hard to distinguish which wire is which, plus its easy enough to mark a trace on one side with a sharpie.

Never know when you'll run across a part you need!

Keep in mind that wire for 110 volts is different than wire for 12 volts.

The size and amount of strands are different. I can't remember which is which though.
