For the past few weeks I have been working on the wiring harness in my 1984 K5 but there's A LOT that ain't right. Since this vehicle can be delivered with two different emission systems I have found similarities between the federal and Californian emission system that I just can't seem to understand. The Federal version does not have an engine speed sensor on the top of the vacuum pump, mine does so that should mean that I have the Californian version.
The Californian version has a MAP sensor, mine doesn't which would mean I have the federal version. Mine has wires for the throttle position switch which again would make it a federal but I don't have the switch, at least no wires running from it.
Something definetly doesn't add up according to the book.
80% of the emission system and wiring match with the federal version but the last 20% looks like it's the Californian version.
Were the ever a federal version with the engine speed sensor??

There should not be a MAP sensor (Ca. or FED) on a 84 as that's a carb year. The TBI trucks all have a MAP sensor (Ca. and FED). I also don't think you're going to have a speed sensor, i know that All the FI vehicles do though and it is on the back of the speedo. Green box with wiring plugging into the side of the speedo.

What homey failed to mention (in this thread) is that it's a 6.2 diesel.

Carbed trucks has VSS too . Mine is an 83 , bone stock when I got it , green box with wires to the back of speedo . Think cruise and ESC used it , not the 700r4 , since mine was a vacuum switch year .
