Which engine would you want in your 80s k5 blazer?

I will never go older than an L83 swap after @Fastereddie hooked up my 77. It's a little more up front outlay but the return has been awesome. Just a thought.

This brand new LS crate engine comes in at $4,000 and has 450HP

For the sake of keeping it stupid simple get the L31 long block, it’ll bolt right in place with minimal mods, you’ll have plenty more power over stock and be back in the drivers seat quickly if you stay after it.

If you aren’t afraid of work, LS swap it. Great power and dependability. I just know myself and it would take me a decade to do all of that work.

Sounds like the L31 would meet my needs for sure. I've searched and can't find a fully dressed price?

Any good suggestions on where you'd buy that engine? Really appreciate the help

One that burns oil, of course.....
Seriously,
If I could afford it, LS Swap.
Chevy big or small block is fine, I dont mind carburetors.

Beyond this you’re good to go with parts you have if I’m not mistaken all other parts should bolt over. You just need to make sure your distributor gear is ‘melanized’ to go with the roller cam.
Okay. This is looking like the direction for me.

Would this fit an 1983 k5? Says it's for year range...
1996-2000 GM

That’s just the vortec year models. I would make sure and verify that it has a manual fuel pump rod, that’d be a deal breaker for you if it doesn’t have it. As long as it’s got the manual fuel pump rod capability I think you’re good to go but someone else may come along and correct me.

I would be leery of the shop in the CL add, any place that displays a new engine with a shop floor that dirty and disorganized is a no go in my book. If a repair shop isn't clean, organized, and professional looking the owner/employees don't have an attention to detail.

I vote for a 455 Buick, Olds, or Pontiac, because one of that is what is going in my Suburban when the 6.2 diesel dies.

This is the kinda gold i'm looking for. Gonna start researching this 455 Olds a bit now. Thanks for answering the question!
