So is an atlas II or a LOMAX np205 a stronger/more user friendly transfercase? I have never seen a LOMAX np205 in use so I do not know. Thanks in advance!

The 205 is stronger, but the Atlas II is really strong too. The Atlas will be lighter, will already have twin stick capability, and has more gearing options. The Atlas is much more expensive and requires an adapter to bolt up to your trans.

I would go atlas. I think the money you put into lomax is a waste. I would rather have a sweet case , and it built to endure. Also you forgot to mention Stak 4x4.

How is putting money into a lomax a waste? Its practically a brand new t-case for half the cost :dunno:

If you don't have a case it is not cheap. A bolt in lomax is still $2150. From JB Conversions. The Gear , and case kit is $1095.

The Stak

It's been a while since I priced an Atlas but I'd bet you could build a Doubler with a Lomax for similar cost. Imo, the doubler/Lomax would be much stronger than an Atlas. I believe the Atlas has a 500 lbsft limitation, not sure if there's a max vehicle weight.

Seeing how the lomax is based off a 205 I would have to say it's built to endure. I don't know too many people that have 30 year old Atlas t/cases in their trucks but I know a lot of people with 25-30 year old 205's that still work just fine.
It depends on what your truck is going to be used for and if you really need a deep crawl ratio. Oh yeah and the price definitely makes a big difference ;)

It is cheaper if you have a case , or it you assemble it yourself. But an atlas or stak is already assembled so that isn't truely apple's to apples.

Thats the thing I have a 203 case, so I would have to buy a 205 to start with.An atlas II is approximately $2300 with upgraded output shaft.

That's true. It's not really a fair comparisson because the lomax bolts right in, stock crossmember, shifter, etc. 205 cases are a dime a dozen in the junkyard so finding a builder isn't that big of a deal.
There will probably never be a 205 with multiple ratios, unless a 203 is bolted to it which opens up a whole other debate.....doubler vs. stak vs. atlas :doah:

I dont believe that Atlas II have been around 25-30 years.

That was my attempt at sarcasm. Was just trying to point out the reliability of the 205.....;)

I personally wouldnt mind the Lomax, simply because of ease of install... I am already setup for a 205, and instead of getting a doubler and changing driveline lengths again, I could literally bolt one in and go. And I like the reliability of a 205.

If you already have the 203 why aren't you going with a doubler? Did I miss something?

I dont like the weight of the 203 and I just want a single case. My application is not for rock crawling. I have never rock crawled before and I dont see myself doing so in the future and if I were to then it wouldnt be all the time. I mainly go to the dunes and race. I do catch air at times and I am weary of doubling my 203 do to weight issues. Don't like the idea of having all that weight just basicly hanging out there so to speak. I dont feel that a doubler is right for my application.

K so then he has cost of this, 205 , and parts. Plus the doubler kit. Shaft's etc. It sound's like he want's a single case.

He might not need new shafts since he originally had a 203. A used 205 case is probably $500 and the doubler kit is about $1,000 depending on what company he chooses. For a $1,500 investment a double transfer case setup is a stout, reliable setup with multiple gearing options.
