I'm running a tuff country 6" lift. Got a great deal on procomp es9000's (almost free). The suspension seems very stiff over bumps. I'm only guessing the shocks are a bit on the stiff side. Anyone have experience as to the stiffness of these shocks? Or a recommendation for which brand I should use? I wanted a soft ride, so something along that line.

The best shock you can afford, with appropriate valving for your applications. Bilstein 5100s ($70ish), 5150($100ish), or if you wanna really go all (budget wise) out 7100s or fox 2.0 are in the $180ish range. Really good shocks like Triple bypasses are going to run thousands for a setup at all 4 corners.

Did you get the EZ-ride or the HD? There is an extra leaf in the HD that makes them stiffer. For shocks I am now recommending everyone to get rid of the twin-tubes. I noticed a big difference going from "lift kit" shocks to Bilsteins. Not only softer, but also more control. You get what you pay for, but if you don't want to cough up $300 for the 5100-series, there might be something long enough in the blue and yellow ones - i want to say they are called B6-series or just HD. Supposedly Rough Country is also selling a monotube for lifted trucks, wich is OK.

Do yourself a favor and install some higher shock mounts in the front before spending money on shocks. Like the Ford towers, for example.

There are definately limits to how soft any lift-kit leaf spring can ride. If EZ-rides with decent shocks don't cut it for you, look into custom leafs. Or if you really want everything, look into links/coils.

springs are likely your issue. But for shocks - Bilstein 5100s without a doubt.

I bought the lift a few years ago, then started a lengthy divorce. I cant recall if I have the ez rides or the hd's. Any idea how many leaves the hd has vs ez ride?

I've got procomp 4" springs front and back. the ES9000 shocks.
and I must tell you its pretty stiff going over speed bumps

I had pro comps on all 4 corners worst shocks ever. Only 2 runs on them and 2 shocks had almost zero rebound. My new bilsteins completely changed he ride

all the shocks made by lift companies ( Pro comp, skyjacker, rough country to name a few) seem to be the same junk. bilstein knows shocks and does them right.

My next set will be billsteins. My rancho 5000 s have seen better days. They work alright but not what I wanted, just what I could afford at the time.
