for the price I would think you could get one that didnt need so many repairs. Id say the whatever had the least to fix

x2 If you're going to take the bed off, etc. They're pretty much equal otherwise, I'd personally stay away from having to re-wire, but I hate electrical.

I'd go with the 89. You'll get a FI BB , nicer interior, and not to mention that the DOE truck probably got the crap beat out of it. But either way, like said above, go with the one that needs the least amount of work.

either one you go with let me know how you plan to cut down to fit the 6 foot bed. I have been thinking of doing it to my CC

Go with the dually so you can sell me the rims,.................at a reasonable cost of course!!!!!:D Plus you gotta go big block!!!!

I think a shortbed dually would be awsome especially if you plan to lift it. Its not everyday that you see a lifted dually crewcab shortbed..

just an FYI, the 84 is not TBI.

IMO, go with the 89;
factory fuel injection
DRW 60/70 so h1 will fit
lower gears for the 70

Agreed. Definitely go with the 89. I'd be amazed if the 205 actually needs a rebuild, just about the only thing that'd go wrong with it would be to run it without fluid. What's the reason it's needs a rebuild?

Actually they say its acting up and leaking. If no issue no problem. Just fill it up. Otherwise ill have it built.

i say go with the dooley. that TBI is much better than carbed. that way you have the DRW hubs up front for the h1's anyways.

If i had the cash i probably would. But one toy at a time i still need to finish my k10 up too. So i guess two toys at a time.

Keep looking

I would keep looking because i just picked up a 97 crew cab with a big block that is a 4x4 dually in great shape needed a good cleaning driver door hinges and a passenger door glass for 2,450. Oh yeah and has a rebuilt 4l80E with a couple hundred miles on it. Just look for one that needs nothing. Buddy of mine got a 89 big block 4x4 crew cab that need a new front seat and had a dent in one door for 1400 last year.

Wow Your friend got a deal of a lifetime. Prices down here are not that great. Not too many 1 tons here. For some reason people think they can get what everything is booked at. But i will never buy a truck outside 73-87/91 chevy or gmc again. For myself anyway. Those are the only type of pickups i like.

Well

I'm fond of my 85 K5 as my daily driver. But it's got a Fuel injected 5.7 that i wouldn't trade for the world. 3/4 ton swap 4.56 gears and 35 BFG's.
But my new crew cab is getting boat sided flat belly, and 203 205 doublers and if i can find a way rockwells with 47s. Got everything but the rockwells. Oh yeah and the expensive little parts to make it all work. Maybe next year we start building. I've just become a big fan of the Vortec motors highly reccomend the swap. The big block has over 260K on it and doesn't use any oil has great oil pressure doesn't smoke runs great and only has one small valve cover leak. Just great motors.

get the 89', I have that same truck only a SRW, 454TBI, TH400, NP205, D60, 14FF. you got to love that combo from factory.
