Long story short Ive decided I need to buy a different work pickup. The old Scottsdale is definatly on its last legs, its not worth putting a different motor in at this point I dont think. Ive got two trucks Im looking at. Will get used year-round at the farm, and there is a high level of possibility a plow will get thrown on it. I pull trailers just enough to need need a 3/4 or 1 ton but not enough to get a new enough one for an DD. I also might end up mounting a 5-600 galle watertank in the rear of it.

Both trucks have gooseneck balls in them, infact the same guy owns them both. They have both been taken care off. He bought the Ram new and he was the second owner on the Dually, I also know the first owner.

First truck is a 99 Dodge 2500 Reg cab, 24 valve cummins, automatic, with 174,000 on it. 3rd tranny with this last tranny not having pulled much. Box is kind of beat up, tailgate its dented badly in some spots but its all on the inside so idk if that accounts for anything or not. It is starting to rust in certain areas on it bad though. Front fenders and cab corners. Hes asking $6000 for it.

Second truck is a 96 Chevy Silverado 3500 Dually Reg Cab. 454/5 speed. Not sure on miles or what hes asking yet but its body is in much better shape and no rust. Main reason Im thinking about this truck now is a 454 is gonna start easier then a Cummins in the cold a$$ winters we have. And of course, Id be keeping my fleet all Chevy

What say you guys?

In my opinion I would go with the cummins. In the winter just plug in the block heater. I don't mind my 94 2500 IFS chevy for plowing and light hauling but with the plow all the IFS needs way more maintenance than a solid axle truck.

Imo, the Cummins is the superior truck BUT do some searching as I believe the 2nd gen 24 valve motors had a lot of issues with lift pump and consequently injector pumps.

I hate that auto in the dodge have had alot of friends have major problems.

So I vote for the Chevy. Will cost you more in gas but the initial price is probably lower
