which winch?

Here is the true comparison between the 8274 and the 9500(ti, xp, hs) series, they have the same pull speed. Check Warn's site.

BTW - I just bought a 9.5ti from Performance Offroad, best price around. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Same thing I posted... Only I took the time to edit it so you could actually read it.

They quit making the HS a long time ago. Apparently due to the fact that Warn makes a bunch of winches that compete with their own winches. Kind of reminds me of GM.

I added the minute speeds though. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Damn! It did not post up right.

Clemson 4 Wheel has them for $1010 shipped and they're the Warn service center for the entire southeast.

CORRECTION! I got mine from Clemson. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gifStill a kickass deal /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif Performance was the second cheapest /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Warn 9500 TI

This one is fast and pulls hard.

I love the differance of opinion. You can tell the people that get in deep in the mud and those who do not.

Anyone that gets in the serious mud would NEVER, I repeat NEVER suggest anything other than a 12k winch for a 1 ton Blazer on 44s. None the less a Suburban.

ken, interesting point. i run a 8000lb pto, and often wonder if i would not be better served by a larger one. Ive been REAL stuck (not in this truck) and i havent really used this one on a frame deep sruck.

at best i say 200% vehicle weight. so 12000+ gets my vote too.

PTOs are a little differant story. Since the power that is used to run them comes from your engine directly.
I wouldnt be too quick to get rid of a 8k PTO.

Where as an electric is limited by the winch motor itself.

The 8274 on my buddies early Bronco impressed me a bunch when I had my K5 buried up to the headlights, though it had to be double-lined /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif.

Another guy has a Warn HS 9500....it's also very fast though I've never seen it used when a truck was completely buried in mud. The bad thing about the HS is that it was almost too fast, especially under no load. You would let off of the switch and it would reel in another 3 feet of cable before stopping.

My question would be if you run the 9.5 or the 8274 how long is the thing going to last compared to the W1200? Now I dont have one and dont see much mud and have only had to be winched twice but if I decided to start hitting the mud a little more it seems to me the 1200 will last a lot longer since it wont be at its max every time you pull the cable out.

Hehe... I think you mean 12000.

Hell... We get pulled at least twice every time we are out. Bad day if we dont.

One of my friend's dad operates an offroad recovery business and they use a Warn 8724 on a multi-mount with some other goofy stuff attached to it. They have to get the motor rebuilt frequently because they use it so hard, but its not terribly expensive and it prety easy to take off and put back on, I've helped them a few times. The winch get used to pull all kinds of vehicles out, many of them burried up to the frame. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

well, i look at it like tires/motors,lockers... etc the difference in money is negligable. but the performance difference.gurante3e is substantial imo.

i carry enough gear to be able to recover almost anyone all the time. i have one shot..... and it could be life or death.....you know

we both watched my 1974 8274 pull my rig up the same grade faster than the hs 9500 on my pops wrangler.

Hey don't you guys remember the reviews of the 12000lb and the new 16000?lb winches? An old 8274 with a snatch block outpulled both of them.

As far as longevity my old 8274 (so old it doesn't have an automatic brake) outpulls my buddies 5 year old 12000. His 12000 will actualy drain the battery so hard it kills the motor.

Persionaly I have never need to double my line back to myself with the 8274. Granted I am a Hybrid rig running on 44's, but if I chock my front tires so they won't slide the winch will pull my rear tires off the ground before it stall when making a single line pull. The thing is an animal!

Unless you have cooling problems and need unrestricted air flow thru your radiator, or for some reason need a low profile wench, the 8274 is realy the best winch out there. So my sugestion is to get an 8274 and a snatch block...that way you get a strong winch and a fast winch all in one. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

yunit, do you have a link to performance offroad? I tried performanceoffroad.com and nothing came up /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

If you needed the extra pounds then you could just use a snatch block, It would cut your line speed in half but at least you can get out.
