Hey,

I just stumbled across following offer on ebay (germany).

Some guy is offering an engine out of a c3500 army truck. Just 30k miles on it (verifyable). Complete engine & turbo for about $2000.

I'm interested in that engine, maninly because of the turbo, serp belt setup, the hardware and so on.

I'm not used to the newer body style rigs, so I do not know what model year it is (isn't listed in his offer)

Here are a few pics:

hey!

thanks for your answer. the seller didn't write back yet. no other pics available. just showed up on ebay about an hour ago. curious to get an answer from the seller. seems to be a nice deal, although I'd love to have a DB2 4911 mechanical IP.

Maybe I should try to get this engine,

-add a DB2 -4911 injection pump.
-install my new mainfolds & throw out the EGR
-drive it till it's dead and get me an optimizer or P400 and bolt on all the stuff from this engine

What do you think?

I have not tried to swap in a newer 6.5 TD. Maybe one of the smarter guys can tell you about the fit.

I do know the 6.2 and 6.5 are very simular.

If you mean radiator when you say cooler I think it should. just make sure you clean it out real good and most deffinitly put the mechanical pump on so you don't have to worry about the PMD. Good luck on the bidding.

He Okieraptor,

yeah, radiator, sorry ;-) . I already bought the engine, looking forward to get it running.
I need a different thermostat housing, a 4911 pump and maybe a better radiator.

already got the matching injection lines and a set of new intake and exhaust mainfolds.

Greetings

Flo

Was you k5 a diesel to start with? If it was then it should drop right in. If it was a gas then you will probly have to look for some mounts from a diesel as the radiators for the diesels are way thicker than the gassers.

What manifolds are you puting on it? and I forgot aBout the need for some sort of mechanical waste but you do have the best factory turbo in the gm8 on that motor.

Hey Okieraptor,

yep, it was a Diesel right from the factory.

There are mechanical wastegate controllers available at heathdiesel dot com. ;-)

I've got a set of NOS intake and exhaust mainfolds, do not know if they are different and how the EGR system works on turboed trucks. I'll check at compnine dot com to tell you, maybe I'll take some pics of the mainfolds.

I'm quite busy right now, I have to get my two engines that are for sale on ebay on pallets and ready for shipping 'em out. Hope I'll get some decent amount of money for the old suckers ;-)

Greetings

flo

p.s.

shot a video of my smallblock, maybe you have some fun watching it (it's not the best vid I have to confess ;-)

BTW:

As I'm always trying to improve my English:

=> is it "which year is this truck" or "what year" ? Or is both OK? :doah::doah:

You "Should" not have EGR on a 3500 truck 6.5 engine. It should have the F type engine with non egr manifold. Which is most desirable for best air flow.
The S type engines in the 1/2 Tons and Subs/Tahoe had EGR for emissions.
Not sure how the European trucks are set up tho...

Looking at the pic in your first post i dont see any EGR solenoids so you should be good to go as far as not having EGR.:thumb:

The Heath turbomasters work well.
Be sure to get a Boost guage so you can get your boost pressure set right and exhaust temp guage.

Both are fine. Your English is great!

"What yar is tht thar truck" ? Will work around here too.:D

The engine should swap just fine. I have an 85 k2500 suburban, originally came with a 6.2, was swapped in 94 with a 6.5 (92-93 mechanical setup)and due to compression issues I have just pulled it and put in a 350 gas motor. I have the 6.5 with all the mechanical components still sitting on it. I was thinking about parting it out. I'll double check the model of the ip tonight if your interested in it. It is used, but works great.

@Thunder:
these are great news! Another thing I do not have to worry about.

@dtolman:
Hey, sounds good, would be nice if you got the 4911 pump, maybe we can make a deal. In the worst case I could use it as core / have it rebuilt.
