Hi guys i have just bought a 88 k5 blazer and when driving after about 10 mins i start to get a whine only under acceleration ive noticed that the wiring harness to the 700r4 has been removed and the 4x4 light has had it lights cut any input would be appreciated

To many answers to your question.
We need more info to attempt to help.
Is trans modified? Does it have the correct fluid? Has filter been changed recently?
Does noise happen in park and neutral?
This info will help. I have a bunch more questions. These will do for a start.

Hi guys sorry for the lack of info i replaced the fluid in the trans around a week ago with dexron 6 and changed the filter at the time the noise is only there under acceleration and doesn't seem to be a particular gear it happens in all the truck is completely standard ive revved it up in park and neutral and the noise doesn't appear and i will be changing the fluid in the t case later today thanks again

plug harness back in and re-connect the lights check fluid in trans[/QUOTE

Ive stripped the dash out but cant find where the wires was ment to originally join the loom although ive still gotta chop through some dodgy black tape

Ok so probably not torque converter.
When you change filter, did you remove old filter seal in valve body?
Did the filter match the old one?
I have heard, but not proven, that dex 6 causes a whine in older 700r4. I have dex 3 in mine.

Hi yh i got the seal out and replaced with a new 1 and filter was the same as the 1 fitted and dex 3 believe it or not is hard to get hold of over here

There is a huge debate over dex 6 or 3 for 700r4. Mine has been been built and rebuilt 2x this century. My trans builder said dex 3. I started with a 91 case.
So my rule of thumb has become designed before 2000 dex 3, after is dex 6.

My box is an 88 i believe and i will have to try a source some dex 3 somehow and if this was all the cause of a bad torque converter could i get away with just a new converter or would the box still have to be rebuilt do you know thanks again

If your torque converter is bad it probably contaminated the whole trans with debris. I would expect the torque converter to make noise all the time.
Other possibilities are crank end play, allowing flex plate torque converter to rub.
Try putting t case in neutral, trans in gear and see if noise is there. Fyi shut engine off before returning to park, or shift t case into 2w.

Sorry man just gotta get this off my chest, John of Nottingham, have you caught Robbin Hood yet? :haha::pimp:
Haha no but if i do il be emptying his pockets lol this blazer need a lot love and will try the transfer case method you said shortly and will report back thanks again

I would check u-joints and pinion bearings

Ive given the rear driveshaft a good shake and i do have the very slightest up and down movement at the rear most uj and its the side that clamps to the yoke that moves on the uj would that be normal or something next to be addressed

I would check motor mounts. Maybe the balancer is rubbing under acceleration because they're worn out.

I never thought of mounts although i have noticed it bounces around a fair old bit and have ordered a pair from rockauto along with a few other bits thanks for the info
