whenever i put my truck in four wheel drive i hear a whiining sound kinda like i am going to fast kind of whine. i do not know why. what is the prob?

sounds like a bearing going out. could be pinion bearing or front out put on transfer case. check to see if the pinion has any side to side play in it

Is this in high or low range? Whining from the transfer case is pretty normal in low range. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

whining is normal when ur in low due to the gear reduction or w/e...not sure exactly how it works but it always does that in 4low....and it doesnt work at all in high you say? doesnt go into 4hi? or it plain just dont work?

it will go in I mean the light is on but it still acts like it is in neutral

yea i second that..not surprised if the linkage is of or needs adjusting..and u have auto or manual hubs? if you have manual im asuming you locked them..and if ya got auto maybe there not workin right?

funny thing i tried it again today and it works fine. I am so happy that it is working

heh...cool! good chance ur shifter linkage might be a little loose or w/e..at least thats what i would think...keep trying it a while and see if it stays ok.. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

My truck does that also, but in 4H. Its been like that for as long as I have had it (from 1996) and I have stopped worry about it. Should I worry?

The truck has NP208 and D44 front.
