That is correct, that type of mount will get ripped from the gutter pretty easily. But the second link you have should work fine, but just note that it even tells you that it should be used when the whip is not in use.

of course my grandpa say they will work tied down but it doesnt work that good
crap dude just get an antenna, plug it in, calibrate the SWR Meter and check where you're at... JUST DO IT!

While that cost money and i currently don't have to much.
probaly $120 for the radio, $20 for the mount, $25 for the antenna, $15 for the spring, $10 for the clip.
and what ever a SWR meter cost
That's well over $200
I got my Uniden PC78 Elite directly through Uniden for $100 to my doorstep... it has a built in SWR meter so no need for anything else... I got the antenna for $25 at Radio Shack (ask for a 102" Stainless Steel whip...they keep them in the back...the first person said they didn't have them but then I asked the manager and she was like oh yeah we have a bunch in a box back here...so just ask)... and just drilled a hole in my bumper and used the mount that came with the antenna...
The Coax was like $10 from Radio Shack as well...

You can find used radios on eBay for pretty cheap. Lots of them come with built-in SWR functions. You can find old whip antennas and springs at yard sales for a few bucks again look at eBay for used springs and mounts. If I spent more than $100 on a CB setup I hope someone would shoot me. I got my Cobra (with SWR meter) on eBay for $60 and found a spring with whip at a yard sale for $5. Yard sales are great for finding this stuff at dirt cheap prices. Might even try a wrecking yard and see if theres one installed you can tear out for real cheap

What type of range(in miles) do you get with a stock radio and a well tuned antenna.
how about a radio with a kicker(?)?
I would ask about linear amplifers but i know there illegal, and my friend talk to someone in Tenessee on a radio with a linear

i bought a cb at the englishtown swap meet for 10 bucks and it has a place for abtteries and a car plug in, thinking i didn't haev the wire, bought rechargables, and did have a wire! antennas from radio shack is twenty. its okay tho i got the rechargables for other stuff even though it was like 50 bucks.
im going to run mine on the bed rail along with the stereo antenna (once i get one of those as well so they mathc on the bed rails.

ok thanks i guess i missed that.
I will probaly get a HAM license on day. this whole comminacation stuff really interst me. even though i was alive when cbs where really popular(didnt most people stop usung them about mid 80's?)
probably more when cell phones became more common...

ok nevermind i guess i was alive when CBs went out. I remember my friends brother was saying in his drivers ed. class, in case of an emergence go to channle 9 on a Citizen Band Radio

I just thought of another question. there is alot to CBs aparently.
Does it matter what side i mount the whip to? Drivers side would probaly be the easiest. I dont know i heard the passenger side is better, is that true or is it just a cb myth?

I've heard (and I believe its been mentioned in this thread) that technically the best location is dead center on the truck...

The antenna has to be mounted to a metal surface. The whip is 1/2 of the antenna and the body acts like the other half. Do not mount it on the fiberglass shell, it wont work without doing modifications that you dont want to get in to. Thats why I asked where your current mount was located. To me, it looked like it was on the shell but I couldnt tell.
