I am swapping to shorter front shackles and going from a cross tied to a 2 piece. which is better. the cross tied is stronger but will I get more side fles from the 2 piece or what.

Opinions please.

The 2 piece shackle will bend much easier.

That doesn't mean that it will bend (I run 2 piece shackles) but the point of tying them to together is to keep them from bending.

If you are making them out of 3/8" plate you will probably be fine.

You have cross tied in the front now? are they hitting the frame?

Cross tied should make things a bit more stable laterally too...

I took off the 7" super lift Xties. they are not hitting the frame but the caster is crap so I needed to lower it a bit. I am staying with the 2 piece but just had a thought.

Since a X tied is more ridgid it will hinder flex a little is my thoght.

Only flexin' they will hinder is the flexin' you don't want anyway.

I don't see how you could run cross-tied shackles in the front without horrible caster angle. Unless you really drop the front hangers down to level things out.

I don't think cross-tied are as necessary in the front with the forces they will see. In the rear with a shackle flip I can see it more because the shackles are more suspectible to hitting rocks, etc.

He just means something like the factory set-up only with heavier steel. Like ORD's HD shackles:

I went out today for a bit and I deffinetly fell the caster difference in the 1" shorter shackle. Much Much better feeling and more stable feeling. The old ones were 2 big(but like any good K5'r you allways do it once and the learn the right way the second time)

Thanks Kert. I painted them and baked em in the oven. glad the wife was away for the night.
