White Elephant 01 8.1 burb.

finial cooling system fill 6.5 gl. Rear pads replaced, they were paper thin. Just a few miles from metal to metal. Left to do, bleed brakes including the abs module. Trans and diff service yet to be done.

Yesterday, got it all back together.
Cleaned and waxed wheels, ordered some Goodyear Wrangler at adventure tires. Discount Tire is installing now.
Power steering and hydraulic booster bleed no issues. After road test just @ 1oz to top off p/s reservoir.
Coolant fill bottle was 1/2 over full, at full cold line this morning.
1st trip towing will be tomorrow or Friday. Heading to CA to finish the motor home repairs I started in late June. Needs to be done for our trip to Mammoth mountain, the one that is same time as BB22.
Will be towing the dune buggy to CA, not heavy don't expect any issues. Biggest problem should be my heavy foot.

After tires were done, got in truck and and brake warning light on wtf.
Not wanting to be AH customer I left. Got home shut off, restart no lights.
The tires are much quieter than the Pirelli that were on there. Almost had me thinking a bad hub bearing in front. All better now.
Later I went out torqued the wheels again. Torques were all over the place. Air pressure adjustment. 58psi in rear and 45psi in front atm. I took the caps off so they would crack all the plastic caps.
Ordered a TopDon AD600S scan tool so I could do abs bleed. Checked codes no present ,C0265 in history. Find my way to the correct spot to do abs module bleed, It won't do it says has codes. Back out of that module, go to read code module no codes wtf? Check history same C0265.
Clear codes, check codes, now have a current C0265. So look that up GM service bulletin says
bad grounds at frame near ABS module. Find and clean ground. Was oily from hydraulic booster leak.
Clear codes, find my way back to abs bleed function, do the abs service successfully.
Very clunky user interface, and switching between module functions, the scanner has to relearn vehicle specs every time. Slows going.
I suppose it's ok for casual use, would not want to be a flat rate tech and have to use this. For just at $200. I guess is ok.

Little stuff today and clean put stuff away.
Oil filler cap was loose allowing unfiltered air into crank case.
New cap solved that.
Tested trailer plug no right turn sig. This truck has separate fuse for ea trailer turn light, was good.
Go to the pig tail. PO mess.
Redid all the splices, and wa la right turn works at plug.
Pictures, not as bad as most but not good enough.

Well 1st road trip. Burb cruised across I40 at 103 to 107 outside temps. Trans got to 200 by factory gauge. Water temp stayed rock solid at 205.
1 hill near the top went from 3rd to 2nd, 4k rpm at 63mph. 2400 rpm at 63 in 3rd, 1950 rpm 63mph 4th. Tow haul on.

Ready to leave got to find another ball mount.

Not the project I had in mind today, but one that was on list.
Service the rear diff. I thought maybe had never been done.
Evidence of over rtv use tells me it has.
Got a nice lube locker gasket for her.
Question to friction modify or not to friction modify.
When I first checked Rpo codes G80 in 14bff doesnt use.
Look at 3rd member looks like friction disc.
What says the tribe.

Depends on the fluid. Amsoil doesn’t require it. I should preface that with the govloc it didn’t need it. Need to check with the Detroit.

That doesn't look like a stock carrier to me. Not sure what kind of locker it is, but I'd try to find out to make sure it gets the right fluid.

I am suspicious. No numbers at all on ring gear, nada nothing.
Only numbers on carrier pictured below. It act like a 1 legger turning one tire forward the other goes reverse.
11 pinion and 41 ring 3.72.

So 2 trips to CA and 2 to Bullhead @1250 since oil was changed, checked it today and was down 1 quart. Chevy tradition upheld.

Put a Derale cool pan on the 4l80E, holds 2 more quarts, and has cooling tubes. Brings the trans temp down 20 to 30 deg at 45+ mph. New filter and 9.5 quarts of dexron 3.

Got a new trans mount, when I did the pan I noticed it was torn on 1 side. The mount the parts stores list for this truck are incorrect. I ordered by pictures at rockauto.
Bisdes the tear I didn't realize how squished the old part was.

I've actually never done a double din stereo my self. For that module, in them years I think it's just needed for OnStar. Not sure. I know in my 08 Denali have the dash went through the radio, and you HAVE to have a special module for that.
My 05 I just wired everything from scratch and I don't use OnStar so no advice there.
As for backup camera, I'd do one of the ones that is inside a rearview mirror. Looks like a normal mirror most of the time, and when it's in reverse half of it becomes a monitor. I personally haven't used one yet, so no idea if they're any good. But that's what I plan to put in my dually.
I had the rear view camera style in the 74 k5, works good for me

I did the double din touch screen display and back up camera. Used the metra ip bezel. The original ip bezel has a bigger opening.
Had to modify the rear bracket of sub dash. Didn't much care for that. If the head unit was a bit shorter or lower in the back it would have fit better.
I like the end results. Sounds great. Has Bluetooth, USB, cd/dvd, am fm video out.
Pioneer AVH 241EX.

The back up camera was from Amazon license plate style works ok

Is it a California truck? Mine doesn't have the A.I.R. stuff on it, nor do the other ones I've seen. I ended up going with the 265 tire mostly just for looks. Considered going even taller, but would have to move away from the PYO wheels and buy a couple ring and pinions.

I ended up going with the factory nav touchscreen from an Escalade or something and scored a used adapter that lets you put composite video on the screen. I just didn't want an extra screen stuck on top of the dash for the camera. There are 2 video inputs, so I'm hoping to get a wireless camera to go on the back of trailers someday. The license plate camera is awesome for hooking up to a trailer. I want to get a remote control for electric tongue jack to do the whole thing in one pass. I also added an iSimple to get phone, bluetooth, line in and USB. This also keeps factory satellite radio, (but I hate the SQ of satellite radio) and keeps the tie-in with the factory backseat DVD system and backseat headphone/radio controls. So it should be awesome, but the navigation is DVD-based and gets read errors a lot. Plus you can't get any maps newer than like 2006.

Do you have rear heat? That lower radiator hose is pretty hard to come by.

Yes was a Ca truck isn't any more. Since I have an exhaust manifold leak to fix I am considering a air delete, and possibly egr. Just need to figure out how to tell the computer not look for those signals and outputs.
Po did a rear head rest video. 1 display won't power on and other never shuts off, so I disconnected them both.
For nav I default to Google on my phone. I didn't like the the proprietary spying ass app that had absolutely no worth while applications to use. The app was not Android auto, and I forget what is was. I'll check the documents later
