I need a part number 14028918. It's the water outlet for a 6.2L Diesel. The part that sits on the thermostat and connects the intake manifold and the upper radiator hose.

My original is warped and playing hell sealing (well, not sealing actually) and the only thing else I can find is made in China potmetal junk that snaps an ear off at less than 35ft/lbs.

So any idea who might have these as NOS stuff?

Calling my local GM truck dealerships in the morning.

35 ft lbs sounds like a bit much in aluminum intake.

but thats just me.

and check the intake with a file 2-3 diffrent directions for flat. then check the new part also. and i dont use rtv. just a good gasket without the self stick sh!t crap. if you want to use a LITTLE sealer on it then get form a gasket .

Yeah, they can't get the NAPA part for a while. Have you used it? I guess it's my backup if the ACDelco stuff is no go.

sweetk30, 35 is what my '86 FSM calls for. It does show studs instead of bolts though.
I'm only using gaskets. What's wrong with the self stick ones? This thing goes on vertically so those hold the thermostat in for me instead of having to dick with trying to keep it in place and not ending up squishing it.

No, I haven't used it. I just figured hey, I'm a tech at an autocare center so ill log on to prolink and see if NAPA offers one lol.

I also think 35 ft/lbs could be a little too much.

The only thing that makes me nervous is the picture on the NAPA site looks JUST like the one I had break on me.

Hrm, should go check my Chilton's...seems backwards checking that over the FSM but could be an error...gonna be pissed if it is...

Yep, when I looked at the NAPA one i thought it looked close. NAPA does use a lot of China stuff. (Rotors especially, they warp/wear quick)

Contemplating two gaskets and crossing my fingers that the original will seal...

One gasket and some RTV might work. I've seen it before, not the correct way but in a pinch it could hold ya over.

Funny how getting laid earlier and being pissed make you not want to go to bed. 11pm...guess I ought to head out to the garage.

35 ft lbs for a thermo housing????:eek1::eek1: You sure that aint inch lbs. Put some silicone on and snug it up. 35 ft pounds is a little :screwy:. no wonder it cracked in half

I was thinking the same thing.

What about getting a fancy chrome one at Schucks or the like? I don't like the chrome bling, but I think they are not pot-metal.

Well...you've already got the important part - the part number.

I googled around and found everything from a guy selling them on Ebay (and trying to get 120+ bucks for one?! :screwy:) to a few fortunately legitimate looking sites with pretty normal pricing.

I found that number listed at PTCPower.com as well as a dealer in Texas - Always Chevrolet - if you click on their "parts" link and put in that part number for a Chevrolet or Hummer, it does come up and let you add it to the cart. I've never dealt with either, so if you want to make sure it's legit and a real OEM part, I would make some phone calls before I pulled the trigger.

Either way...I've had good luck tracking down parts with Google in the past.

Ah...heck. I just searched again and came up with Saturn Surplus as well as viegr.com . Same disclaimers as above apply.

Hope this helps.

Like I said, my '86 FSM clearly shows, referencing the picture of the 6.2L truck setup, 35ft/lbs. The Chilton's doesn't even specify a torque. Guess the FSM must be wrong.:doah:

The chrome ones are for small block gas engines. This is bigger and in a different configuration. They don't interchange.
ALDATAdiy.com says 20 ft.lbs.
Thanks man. Duly noted.

top of my head I remember that the bolts are either 5/18 or 8mm shaft size, 1/2 inch or 13mm nut size. which means max torque is 25 ftlbs for steel or cast and less for aluminum.

I might call tonight if I get off work early enough:D

Try rockauto. Use the promo code listed in the free section. I just ordered from them if you need an up to date promo code.

Also, i broke my stock on on my blazer trying to torque it down....with a standard 3/8" rachet. They are not very strong. 35 ft lbs seems WAY too much. I have started to use a torque wrench more and more on stuff, but on things with low pressure seals like that, snug them down, and walk away. Really. Also, both my stock Blazer one and the stock 97 454 were gasketless. You can buy gaskets (which you need if yours is warped), but stock they do not use them.

SO. I vote to order from Rock auto, express it, install the stock one with a gasket for the time being. Throw the torque wrench out, and torque with a standard legnth 3/8" ratchet with one finger :)
Don't over tighten it.

Rock Auto has the same stuff as I broke.

I should have at least two genuine GM ones coming. Going to go out and make mine work.

OOPS. I missed the 6.2L Diesel part. The 20 ft/lbs is for a 5.7L.
