ive had that idea of the cd player in the console before i just couldnt figure out how i would keep it from skipping and keep the original playable too!
you did a good job!!
Thanks! Sorry not much of this resto-type info helps with your '89.:o But you could build a wooden cradle in the console for your stereo if you're somewhat handy. I made it up as I went along.:D

The AM radio in my dash isn't hooked up except for the backlight (looks cool at night). The radio works, but it's mainly for looks.

There are only a handful of us on here I know of with original "mallcrawlers" as they're referred to...we're too few and far between. 1978blazerk5 is a registered user who has a very nice '78 (obviously). He has several posts in the Garage with pics.

im probally the only one with and 88' if it was trashed it build it up but its so close to stock it would be a shame not to restore it . i grew up in it, my father drove me to boy scouts in it, i took it to prom and graduation, banged some ex's in it, theres a lot of memories in it i thought it would just make sence to rebuild it and give it back to my mom. anyways if you know of anyone with pics of there original engine compartments it would help me remeber what went where.

Mine doesn't look very nice, but it is mostly original. I am the third owner. The first two owners were elderly couples.

The interior is trashed, cause this truck was USED for its designed purpose(no offense to anyone with a nicer truck). The first 19 years of my trucks life were spent as a hunting rig only. After that, it was a ranch truck. I got it, and have wheeled it a few times, to the point of causing body damage.:eek1:

Yes, this is a 250 6 cylinder, with 3 speed Saginaw tranny. 4 wheel non power drum brakes. Manual steering. According to the glovebox sticker, the only options were the 2 passenger seats and the hardtop.:doah:

Well dang, now I feel guilty about wanting to cut mine. '87, 4 spd, 4" lift and 33's right now. All original other than the lift/tires/rims. Body is in perfect shape other than the floorboards are torn at the seat mounts (would hardly have any rust if not for that). Body is straight and I have yet to see any bondo or rust on it. The only rust is small surface rust underneath, no paint blisters or holes. Interior is about 75% good other than carpet (carpet was junk). A sawzall was in the near future for this rig until I saw this thread, argh! Now I wonder...

I think Craig's is the most orignal... by far.

Mine had everything when I bought it and was in pretty good shape.... except the driveline. The engine and tranny were pretty darn bad.

My plan is more a restoration/mallcrawler. I want to keep all the orignal '74 parts that I can..... if I don't get infected by the ck5 bug.

:D

Here's what it looked like when I bought it. The tires were Michelins that were installed in 1975. The guy had ALL the receipts, including gasoline receipts. Sorry for the all the pic-whoring...

No Ben! Don't go to the dark side with your K5! Buy a trail rig and modify it instead! You're in the starting lineup on Team Mallcrawler!
:haha: :haha:

please dont take a sawzall to it take the oem panels off put them on ebay let me buy then, with that money buy some aftermarkets and hack the "made in tawian" panels. can we see some pics if its that straight <esp. the engine compart, and floor> what color interior?

You guys would cry if you saw the sheet metal on my 73... It used to be straight and clean! Other than the lift, crossover steer, and bumpers, my truck is original!! ;)

I've got no problem being a founding member of "CK5: Team Mallcrawler".
It would be fun to wheel it, but I feel like I'd rather try to maintain a little piece of history.

The plan right now:
Restore the body to completely original. (Some form of '70s gold color paint)
Keep the driveline I have installed (383/465/205), but maybe paint it to 'look' original.

Lift Kit (Sorry Craig). I have ALWAYS wanted a Blazer on 35's. I really think it just balances out the proportions of the truck.

I would also like to find a way to get shoulder belts in it (for safety). I may go rollbar, I may go cage, I may switch for high-back buckets. BUT, that's about all the changes I plan on making.

When I'm done it should look like an 'original' lifted '74. But it will have an upgraded engine.

-Ben

PS> Mine also spends all it's time in a garage unless it's a beautiful sunny day!

My '81 crew cab is pretty much original still, the drivetrain and suspension is completely stock and the cab only has a different grille and stereo. I've got a service bed on mine though, so that probably docks me pretty hard.:doah:
