who likes old school better than new?

Who keeps a new vehicle, truck, car or otherwise for more than a few years before they get a new one anymore? Nobody. All new vehicles are throw-aways and are not designed for a 10,15 or 20 year life span. Our old dinosaur's were designed that way, thats why they are still on the road.
Sure, new school is faster, more fuel efficent, and quieter, but at what price? Somebody said a new truck payment of $350 a month? No way, more like $450-$500, have u seen the price of these things today? No way they are worth it. I looked at a 2003 1500 4wd Suburban, and the sticker was like $41k! And how about that pos H2? Its not even a real HUMMV, and suckers are buying them like crazy.

It all comes down to the $$$$$$ I would definately have a newer rig with a power-house motor and all the comforts, but totally built to wheel and bash.

if i like it i'll keep it.i've had my blazer for 13 years now.and i'll have it for until i die or it gets stolenor i get to old to take care of it and theres nothing left but tires and o-rings in the driveway.i bought my super duty because it's a one ton,8 ft bed,color i wanted-green-,rubber floor,5 speed manual,no power windows or door's,v-10.but it has air,C.D.and cassette,cloth seat and 310 H.P.if chevy made a truck today that had a solid front axle it would be in my driveway,i'm not going to spend ten's of thousands and still have to make it how i want it(solid axle,etc.) but every day i back in the drive and J.R. put's a smile on my face.that trucks been through hell and keeps on going. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I see it this way...

I I have a rig that is pushing the limits...I see a need for fuel injection is a must. Now if I am willing to deal with the hassel of fuel injection for the benifits and performance I gain, I imagin the rig has other aspects that are hard core and less streetable too.

the whole point to this is if I have a hardcore buggy that is decked out with goodies, I would assume I towed it to where I want to wheel...
so if it breaks I fiddle with it same as I would in the dirt drive way, also the tools I carry with me out wheeling are also my home tools...I also have and plan to carry a spare tranny,starter,alternater,battery and dist.,ful pump and water pump. For fuel injection I ould carry spare sensers and computer..one way or another homeor on trail I should get it fixed /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

either way the truck is getting home or on the trailer.


for the 72 I am using my big block, but since I have no interest or care about angles on a roadster a carb will do it for me..this also allows me to swap in a big cam since I no longer want to put my tbi on it /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

daily driver...If you an afford it...new car with fi and warrenty, trade in every few years.

daily driver old school or beater..simplicity is where its at..or a high doller trouble free setup /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

whats the deal with you guys being affraid of electronics/computers and stuff like that?

You all can build trucks from the ground up like its nothing, but cringe at wires/sensors?

Ive been able to put together electronics since i was a little kid but takes me 2 days to get a header bolt in, mabye we need to help each other out /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

I'll take new school any day. I got my licence and grew up in the "Muscle car" days of tuning tweaking and breaking down. I dont miss carbs&points and old electornics at all.
After all:
A tune up usually requires only installing a new set of plugs.
A bad condencer will leave you just as stuck as a bad distributor module.

A electric fuel pump will give you warning when it is going out. An old mecahnical one just fails sometimes leaking fuel into the engine and maby causing damage.

I like the idea of plugging in a scanner so my truck can tell me whats wrong. Kinda gives it a personality.

And as for old K5 being built better? It makes me wonder?????

me its old school all the way, my barings are going and i have a line on an eraly freashly rebulit 350. and i am going to rp all my wireing out and rerun it all. just a few togles and that is it.

hell i got an old 4 barle carb on a shelf throw it and a few jets and gaskits, mabey a float or two in an ammo can, with some carb cleaner.

thats a lot smaller and a hell of alot less expence then all the sensors you would have to carry. never mind get at, and what if your computer gets wet and frys???

and as far as watching the road through the floor, i am sure the guy who can do that don't drive the rig because they can fix it easyer other wise they would have. oh and nice new thin sheat metal rigs rust out fast too /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
