Hey guys, where is the best place to get a remand long block from? Not looking for anything more than stock power, just want something that will be reliable. It will be for an 89 k5 tbi engine. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, the best are the GM goodwrench.
And you can find them local even in AK

You need to listen to these guys here. When I needed a new engine for my Ford, I was going to go with Jasper.
But, my mechanic, who puts in more engines in a week then I will in my life, recommended LKQ.
http://www.lkqpowertrain.com/products.aspx

I asked if they were better than the other big names, and he said that he had had real good luck with their rebuilts, and the one or two times he had problems, there were no questions asked.
He simply called them, they sent in another engine and paid his labor to change it.
He said that when one of the Jasper engines that had problems was a different story. At first they wanted him to take it out and ship it to them for inspection before they would send a replacement.

So, which is better? Darned if I know.
My LKQ is running fine. Don't see how any other brand could do any better, unless it gave me a sex massage while I drove.

Find one that will do that, and I will recommend it wholeheartedly........

I've heard good stuff of Blueprint Engines. Jegs and Summit sell those.

S&J engines in Seattle. They have a 3yr unlimited mileage warrantee. Very good place. They don't even grind valves, they replace them. Prices are reasonable. They have pickup points around the west. No shipping charge if you drop off your current engine there.
My buddy dropped off his 455 Pontiac at one, and picked up his same engine a week later completely rebuilt.
They have a website, but I'm on my phone.

The ONLY other engine I would suggest would be a GM replacement.

No offense to others, but I have installed LKQ engines befor, wouldn't do it again. we have had alot of warrantee problems with them. No jasper's either. We put 3 of those in one car before we got a food one.

Hard to beat a GM crate motor.
When a brand new engine cost $100-200 more then a rebuilt engine I cant understand why anyone would choose to use used parts over new parts.

How machine shops stay in buisness and sell rebuilt engines for near brand new prices is beyond me.

I have heard nothing but good things about Jasper Transmissions and Engines...visit their website and you will see why.

Dont go Motor Works. I would definitely go GM. Youre so close to AK sales already. Go talk to them.

Thanks guys I'm actually in Arkansas now but I will gefinately go with a goodwrench motor now, I'll have to go talk to the parts department. Thanks again

I've installed probably 100 Jasper long blocks over the last couple decades and NEVER had an issue with them...

Ive installed jasper engines and transmission only to throw it in a drive and......Nothing

or another example with jasper is the motor smokes or knocks....just junk...terrible stuff

go with GM goodwrench or GM Performance or an Actual Reputable engine builder...( we have race shops here in mass that think there badass because they have a whole dyno and build shop, but their the biggest piece of sh*t motors....) research a reputable company not just by word of mouth

never dealt with any, but a co-worker has a Jasper 350 in his 94 z71. Has 90k currently, no problems.

never installed a trans, but I've done over 100 Chevy long block installs with no issues over 20 yrs... I'd say that's a pretty good track record....

Can you PM me on the bad motor shops. I'll be needing a machine shop soon. Northshore area.

To be honest, I bought a GMPP engine and have had nothing but problems with it, which is why I spent the extra money. Thinking GM designed it, and built it, should be good. I have hated that engine the day I put it in. Had major coolant issues right away, has always leaked oil, and is always low on oil. I would have been better off rebuilding my old engine.

I got a Jasper in my 98 k-1500, and it's been doing great. They changed my opinion of them, since their local reputation wasn't always that great.

Most GM crate motors come from Mexico. I refuse to send my money there and quality is poor at best. My money will be spent locally at small businesses in the UNITED STATES.

I pulled a .080 over Jasper 350 out of a 88 chevy I had about 10 years ago, it had 305 heads and mix match rods. Yup never will buy a Jasper product( I didn't buy the motor was installed before I bought it, had 30k on when I bought truck and was pulled out at around 50k when headgasket blew ).
