Who was making the metal blend door bracket?

Depends on how thick and how many. To just have one cut it would prolly cost a good chuck of money (without getting a real quote I have no idea) To have 100 cut, the price per would be much less etc.

It cost $90 or so to have that plate I made for Richards bumper out of 10 gauge.

If we're talking about the same thing, it's a piece like an inch and a quarter long, yeah?

I've got a coupla variations on plastic ones going out to Martin to try. If they work out, I or one of the other CK5 3D nerds (I'm thinking Kennyw here :D ) can presumably do more.

I'm thinking the ABS will be the solution, but we'll see. For all I know I printed the wrong piece or at the wrong scale -- I don't even have a heater core any more, never mind any of the plumbing for it to try :haha:

Oh I'm sure it could be printed just fine and be super simple.

Didn't have a chance to upload that file at work. But the part itself doesn't looks like anything hard to replicate.

i'm just curious how you'd cut metal for such a small part -- plasma, laser, water, what would give you that level of precision?

:D hmmmm

We have 4 lasers at work, and about 4 million dollars in press brakes. im sure the lazers cost a lot more though.....

I got them from Dremu several days ago, but we have been harvesting, so they have just sat.

I'll get around to trying them one of these days.

Thanks for sending them by the way.

I wrapped the broken plastic piece with a little piece of stainless strap (I believe it was harvested from a broken coffee pot) and epoxied the whole thing together so the screw could go through a hole in the strap. It took like 20 minutes to figure/fab/glue. That was like 7 years ago and everything still works. Even a new stock-type plastic piece would probably last 10 years or more. How long will you have this vehicle?

3018715 pn for the plastic ones. Gm parts direct is showing them. I got a couple from my local dealer a few years ago. Very inexpensive.

Looks like that part is available for $1.57 online: http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results.cfm?singlepart=1&partnumber=3018715 You can also get them from Classic Industries for $3: http://www.classicindustries.com/product/1969/impala/parts/g9223.html

Has anybody used the GM replacement and had it break? The originals seemed to last 15+ years.

But back to the idea of metal. Why use a little plastic tab anyway? Why not cut two pieces of thin flat stock in the profile of the plastic piece and tack weld them to the blend door? Each would have a hole in it for the lever/pin to attach to. I don't think I've ever removed the blend door, but with it out, this would be a 15 minute fab job. It would leak a little air, but you could seal it up with something.

Isnt it funny how in any thread you can find a random question or comment aimed at adam and everyone assumes he'll see it:D funny part is that he usually does:haha: he must just cruise all the new threads too

Found this today and had to laugh...

:haha:

I made one out of metal a few years ago, but had i known the plastic replacements were avail for a couple bucks, i would have just put another one in.
