who wheels diesel?

good to know. i'm trying to anticipate what my engine will be like when i get it in at the end of the month. i deal with only about 500 feet on regular driving. do you have an trouble with going over mountains?

Not really any trouble 'going over mountains'. There are a few good grades and elevation between here and Moab and IIRC I had to gear down once the entire trip, every other grade I made in 4th. You do notice a little less power at the higher elevations, but it's not like the truck won't move anymore. Frankly I noticed the same reduction in power at higher elevations with my old 355...

A turbo on either engine would overcome that though.

My wheeling is usually in the Adironak Mountains here in NY and stay above
1500 most of the time with almost no difference from normal. One other thing thats nice is the engine braking on the trail. I love that about them except on a slick down hill you can lost traction quick.

If I had the option I would run a 6.5 NA as opposed to a 6.2 turbo. The turbo engine will make better power, but for reliablity it would be easier. The turbo will most likely have to be rebuild before the engine will. Also, the other thing about the diesel thats nice is, if you break a alt belt (or some other charging problem), you can travel a lot father on just a battery in the diesel.

i've got the 6.5 in my 82 blazer. its not a turbo, kinda sucks about that, but otherwise its freaking down right kick ass! i love the diesel off road and wouldnt change a thing about it. eventually i wanna do the whole dual cases n what not. i've thought about some rockwells and like some 42's or something. i think the ol' diesel could turn em. plus i DD it, w/ 35's locked rear and 4.10s getting around 15-16 mpg. good times!
