Hey brother I'm in the same club. I do all my own work just dont trust farming it out, there,s a 14b sitting in the back yard that needs to be put in but it's such a bear to move around wish I had another set of hands to help.

I used to love to wrench bc my bud's would be around. Now I usually am only motivated by my gf. I just get so lonely outside by myself especially when it come's to job's that are bigger than one person.

Me too. No one likes t help me because I get kinda anal about how everything is done. But oh well at least I know it gets done right!

I hate having someone else work on my truck. dont really care for help either. Most of the people I know dont really have as much experience in wrenching as I do, not trying to be cocky and Im only 20 but I believe Ive done enough of my own work and learned enough here that I know what I am talking about most of the time.

Now if I had people with the experience I do or were willing to listen and do things the way I want instead of the way they think it should be done then I would love having help. I swapped my own axles once and am not looking forward to doing it again without help but the only way I could really get the help I need would be to drive many miles away.

Another thing is that I like knowing what has been done to my truck and how it was done. If someone in a shop fixes a problem and doesnt show or tell me how they did it then how would I know how to fix it on the side of the road the next time it happens.

However, it does not bother me to ask questions about stuff I dont know about. I still prefer to do it but I wanna know how to do it right.

Lately I've been working on my truck alone. Sometimes friends or my dad helps me fool with it. If I work by myself I tend to work better I think. It doesn't bother me, unless it's a big job like a diff or something. Then it becomes agrivating.

i wrench by myself most of the time. but the worst part is not having air tools :( ...it makes life so much easier.

I work on my truck, cars, and hot rods myself quite a bit. But if i need help all I have to do is call my firend Alan. He will always make time to come over and help me out with 2 man jobs. He even shows up with beer.:waytogo:
I am always willing to help him out too. He is always welcone to come over to use my shop to work on his rigs cuz his garage is full of junk and toys like 4 wheelers, boat ect. We both like working on cars trucks. We both know we can trust each other to do the job right.

lucky..

I do both from time to time, although when you can put your truck on the lift and use any tool you'd need after business hours it makes working by yourself a whole lot easier...

I have done the vast majority myself. Camok5 is a great guy and has spent several weekends at my house, but out of the last 1040 availalbe work hours (10hrs a day x 2days (Sat and Sun) = 20hrs....20hrs x 52 weeks =1040hrs), I have spent well over 700 of those by myself under, in, near, or around my truck fixing or building something...

I likfe the commraderie of having some buddies around, but I like the meditation factor of beign alone...keep in mind that I am an extremely anti social person...and given the choice between being around people or being by myself, I prefer being by myself.

Being tooled for the job sure makes the end result better and the process less frustrating, but that is what I like (sometimes and usully only after it is fixed) getting stuck and having to figure it out.

I usually work by myself. Though a lot of the time I have a beer drinker standing nearby if I really need a second set of hands for something. A lot of friends want to learn to wrench but are afraid to do it. They bring the beer, they watch or help depending what they're comfortable with. Unfortunately no one ever wants to help at 4am when I have insomnia and work in the garage to avoid making noise in the house and risk waking up the little woman.

I know just what you mean, our compressor just took a dump. But I'm lucky, I have an older brother who is into trucks just as much as I am. He's looking into buying a 60 gal compressor in a few weeks, and we are going to split the cost of a tubing bender sometime this year

Oooh tubing bender.......:wink1: I might have to borrow your expertise at a cost to me if ya know what I mean.....

i work by myself pretty much all the time. However i will be adding airtools when i get home in september. i am planning on swapping in a 14 bolt and putting disc brakes and gears in it, dana 60 with new gears as well, hooking up the power steering, dual battery setup, new valve covers, pulling out the carpet and new shocks all in 4 days. i only have 3 weeks at home and my wife will only be working for 4 days of it so 4 days by myself. Hope i get it done so i can wheel it while i am home. Maybe JEBSR will still be in town and can help me out.

Almost always schedule my work to be done when no one will be around, just means I can actually get stuff done. When people are around there are always distractions, and even when the job needs more than one person, it just seems to go quicker with no one around. Swapped motors in the wife's Lumina with no one in the shop, only took three days to get the old one out, and the new one back in, took four days to get everything hooked up because I had "help".
