who wrenches on there trucks themselves...

I do as much as I can by myself. So far I've done everything to mine by myself with the exeption of the bumpers and pressing on some bearings and I had some help getting my steering box to line back up after I put the weld in frame brace on. Other than that, I've done it all right by my lonesome. Both lifts and axle swap! :D

Nobody touches my truck but me... other than tire mounting..

Matter of fact, it's always been that way.. I remember building Dodge Powerwagons, Cudas, yada, yada, on the dirt floor of a barn in the early 80's.. come-a-long over a beam to do motors, etc... :saweet: :saweet: :saweet:

Doing head jobs with the hood closed, in the pouring rain....... :haha:

fun stuff... :D

I considered dropping the whole support out, but I can cut and weld faster than I can wrench. With the tires off, on the axles the rad support is 4'. I didn't like the idea of swinging a sbc at 6' in the air...:doah:

I used to do a lot of the work myself because I had a good friend who would help. We would spend all weekend working on my Blazer and his Jeep. Then he moved to Montana and I realized how lonely it is spending the day in the garage alone. I've only been wheeling a few times in the last 2 years since he left because none of my other friends have trucks.
Then I graduated from college, got a real job, and because of lack of time and no one to work with, I just take it to the mechanic for most things. I still plan on putting a lift on and replacing the engine myself, but I'll probably be doing it alone.

Without extra hands, you just have to use more brain power.
I did my lift/ axle swap by myself and this is a very true statement. I pretty much do everything on my truck by myself. I usually work until 10pm so nobody wants to help me when I can work on it anyway.
I would have to say the hardest thing that I have done by myself is manuvering a complete front axle under my truck in the dirt around the jackstands that were both in the front (had to pull it in from the side).

The worst feeling though is when you do something like what I did. Finished the whole lift/axle swap and wasnt able to drive it because nobody was around to help me bleed the brakes. :doah:

Im not sure about yall but I only trust a few people to help me on my truck and I like doing most things by myself when I can.

i built the truck my self but the last two things i did farm out my 700r4 went when i had my lung removed and just this month i had the buggy cage dun. it was big i have a small under powered shop (and a little above my skill level notching and welding) +i was bad from the lung thing -- but i am getting better.
i am glad i sent it out but i plan on doing much more my self like in the past

Most of the time i have to work by myself, some time i can get 1 or 2 of my friends to help me but thats about it. I am about to swap my 14 bolt bolt in by myself.

I dont usually have time to work on my stuff because I am always helping everyone else works on there junk. But when I do work on my own stuff it is 98% of the time by myself. I put a D60 and 14BFF under my '01 dodge ram 1500 by myself and that is working in the dirt where jacks dont like to roll. I wish I at least worked on a concrete slab. I also just yesterday pulled my front 10 bolt and put in a 2.5 ton rockwell by myself. Whenever I need to do something I can usually find a way to get it done.

You need to go to auto zone and buy a one man bleeder kit. It is just a bottle with a little hose on it. THe hose goes on the bleeder fitting and the bottle even has a magnet on it to stick it to the caliper so you dont have to hold it.

X2.

I try to, but sometimes I'm not so good at it. Actually, with this truck, it seems like I have to screw up 2 or 3 times before I get it right.

im with ya i dont either!!!but at least i have concrete to work on!!

I've had concrete to work on for the past 6 months. First time in, well, ever! It's nice but does suck when it's raining and you can't do anything. Or better yet, you have all of your tools and parts strown everywhere making good progress and a summer storm pops up. Sucks man....

I have a metal carport only one side open to weather. But always fun to be welding and look down to find a stream of water under your feet with lead cables laying in it. :eek1: :haha:

I hate working on my truck by myself, but it's worse when the dog trys to help. It's just hard to get people to help out any more.

Lately I have had to start bribing some folk when I need help with beer and steaks, Lucky for me I am just about finished with the heavy stuff, just have to install a 14 bolt now, the rest i can finish up myself. The friend I had ended up married so he isn't able to help as much any more.

I agree it does get lonely and boring, wrenching by yourself.
It would be nice to have a couple of friends close, who were into busting knuckles, and BSing.

I 2nd that... :( The closet I get is my 6yr old daughter handing me a wrench ONCE in a while. She mainly just sits in the truck and pretends to drive or listens to the radio. :(

I do most of the work, but its hard when you go from a nice garage to a sloped driveway. my dog keeps me company.
