mine gets up to like 220, sometimes 230 after i shut it off. is that normal???? maybe that's a sign of what's wrong with my cooling system on my new GM crate motor. driving it's fine...but idling it will heat up slowly but surely. i think it may be the thermostat...im gonna replace that this weekend. but my truck didint heat up after it was shut off before. whos elses does that???? thanks!

Mine does that and I don't think its much of a problem. Its just the stagnant coolant sitting in the hot engine absorbing the resigual heat. As soon as you fire the engine back up the coolant circulates again and its back to normal opperating temps.

I noticed this since I put in an Auto Meter mechanical temp gauge.

well i have an autometer mechanical gauge...but had it on my old motor too...and the old motor didn't do this, of course it doesn't run anylonger...haha....but i figured maybe this has to do with my other cooling problem. geuss not. thanks.

I`ve noticed it a few times in my rig. Like when I go to work. I drive there, and when I get there I park and shut the motor off and sit and listen to music for a bit, and I notice them temp guage go up a bit...

220-230 from what?

Mine climbs MAYBE 10* after shutdown.

As mentioned, it's normal for it to go up, but if your thermostat isn't open when it should be, the "cooling" after shutdown will be worse.

Yes, coolant circulates with the engine off. :)

Its normal . Just make sure you have a good leak free catch can , good thermostat , and good water pump when the engine IS running :thumb:

Altho it is normal for an engine to heat up a bit after it is shut off. Having the temp creep up "slowly but surely" at idle is not a good thing. Temp should be stable at idle. Check your fan clutch sounds to me like it is bad. Also did you install the radiator shroud?
