For use as a REAR driveshaft, I've searched a bunch and would still like to clarify a few things...

I've read there are both 1330 (Spicer) & 1350 (Saginaw) CV's, is this a year or model thing? I found posts saying 1330 = up to '02 and 1350 = '03+ but I've seen just as many posts saying ALL are 1350. Which is it?

As for the flanges, I read you can use one from either a 32 spline 205 or one from a 208. Surely the 208 flange would be easier to find, is the seal surface the right size?

Anybody know the size and spline count of the slip yoke end? I read it comes with a 1350 yoke but I'm wanting to change it to 1410 to fit my current rear axle yoke.

Sooooo you want to.use a front shaft as a rear? I have a spare front superduty front drive shaft in ky garage. From a 2006 F350. I can measure it and tell you what it is.

Yes, I've read that these CV's are supposed to be what companies are using for parts for the high angle CV shafts.

Can you measure the CV ujoint cap dia, center to center ujoint distance and lastly the flange bolt pattern.

Thanks!!

I also posted this on Pirate and this was a reply there -

Don't the 2003+ Ram trucks use a 1350 CV that uses the smaller flange pattern like the 208/241 flange.

More possible donors. :woot:

I like where this is going. Any idea of the travel in these slip joints? Are you guys thinking this a shaft that could be had and shorten and thats it?

Gary

The slip yoke is the typical short 4"~5" assembly but this isn't big deal when used in the rear.

The shaft isn't a total bolt in; you'll need a flange with a modified pilot lip, a different seal, adjust the tubing length to fit and check the axle u-joint for fit. The benefit is cheaper used parts availability of the big CV joint.

So far it appears that the Ford & Dodge shafts have a 1350 joint at the axle. Both have big 1350 CV's that have a matching flange bolt pattern.

Still researching.....

edit: corrected my original statement about axle end joint size.

Sorry didn't mean to make it sound as if it was a bolt in affair. How does the pilot diameter compare to stock flanges off GM tcases. I have access to a hand full of these and could grab what I need? Is it the 03+ rams that have the 1410 at the axle?

Gary

The pilot on the stock flange is bigger than the CV so it needs to be turned down.

I briefly looked at my 06 Dodge at lunch and the axle joint didn't look like the 1410 I have read it should be. I'm going to have to spend some time under it tonight.

Stock meanig a stock GM flange? When this gets nailed down I should be able to pick up stock shafts pretty cheap from my brother work. Thanks

Gary

I don't think any stock 1ton uses a 1410 joint in the front. New or old.

But I can tell you my current rear driveline has a 5" tube and 1480 joints. Pretty happy with it.

For what it's worth ; my brother has an 01 super duty and the front cv does not look all that big, my 00 Dodge diesel did not have a "large" cv either. I do know the cummins trucks at least 94-02 seemed to use all 1410 stuff on the rear shaft, not cv though.
I will post the pic in a minute, but 04 and up? Superdutys do have a pretty beefy front cv, I saw a t case at a pnp recently and snapped a pic of the cv for future reference

Ahhh no. But I have no need for a constant velocity joint in my rear shaft. It's around 66" long too.

Subscribed..... My buggy runs 1410's front and rear off of a yoked 205.....all four joints.......

Slip joint or flanged with a CV might be something I would be interested in...

Especially if its from common stuff in junk yards .....:pimp:

66in long :eek1: My Burb rear d/s is monstrous and its only 61in long. I see your schwarts is bigger than mine.
