Why was the name "Jimmy" and "Blazer" put on smaller suvs instead of keeping the name on the larger 2 door suvs that got the name "Yukon" and "Tahoe"?

They changes the names when they went to Independent Front Suspension

Personally I think it would have been an insult to the original names to put them on the "new body style" ones...but that's just me..:D

Remember the "new" Chevy Nova ?..a Toyota with a bow tie in reality...I felt that was a low blow to the original Nova's..

If it bothers you that much, the Blazer IS coming back..............as a crossover (fortunately/unfortunately however you look at it)

Marketing as much as anything. While we love the Blazer/Jimmy name, heck I drive my 71 daily, it is not nearly as iconic as say the Corvette. So why stick with a name that may only appeal narrow section of the market when you can repackage something very similar and give it a flashy new name?

Actually, I think the "Blazer" name carried over briefly on the IFS '92+ 2 door SUV's. I think the nae was dropped completely when the 2 door version was phased out.
