Why doesn't Chevy make a modern K5?

Is it just me, or weren't the Avalanches advertised as a SUV/pickup hybrid when they first were released?

EDIT: nm, I looked up the old commercials. Strange how there's never been a following for a bed canopy setup...would basically be a fullsize blazer in that sense.

I must admit, I am a little annoyed that Chevy no longer makes a modern K5. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Can we start an internet petition or something? :D

somebody drive that thing of a cliff!!!!!!!!!!!!!. i am seen rust buckets i would rather have then that. eeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Uh, yeah, that is horrible.

Okay, maybe it's better if they DON'T build one, seeing as how they don't know how to do a good homage to an old truck.

Gah.

I would give my right nut for that K5 Pre Runner, and maybe my left big toe. That is badazz!!

That must be a base price in primer only, cause when i was checkin out new Tahoes, they were in the $45-$55k range if i remember right.. :doah:
Yeah, I know that's low, but you can actually find a strong correlation within a category of vehicles between the price and the weight. A base 4WD Tahoe can be had for $42k, putting the K5 in the high 30's.

The concept vehicle had the 2 smaller doors thing right and we know it would be like 90% the same as a Tahoe. I think they just got the roof cut-out wrong. But just like the real K5 the short wheelbase is the best and worst thing about it. Easy to maneuver, etc., but you can hardly haul lumber and such. Everybody just expects more than 5 seats for a full-size. It's hard to even find a new pickup without extended or double cab.

I'd buy a new K5. 6.0 gas, heated leather interior, modern A/C, a decent sound system. 10B/IFS would be fine, I'd get a small lift kit with some decent looking wheels and tires and I've have a cruiser.

Unfortunately, you guys that are thinking solid axle, coils front and back, lockers,etc..... never going to happen. Why? Because they wouldn't sell any of them.

You say that, and Blue mentioned the 35k price tag, but look how quick they were selling and still sell the JKs. Even at that price once you get some options in them, and the Rubicons were 40k. There is a market for it, if they do it right. Just sayin.

Jeep's bean counters said the same exact thing about the Rubicon. The jeep engineers believed in it so much that they invested a ton of off the clock time and found some ways to make management realize how much better the package worked off-road. IIRC, at least in the TJ body style, every one was spoken for from the factory, and it's a pretty hefty price hike over a regular wrangler.

Convince people they'd have a cooler image driving around in a rough around the edges offroad machine, and they will even pay MORE for the privilege. Hell, the marketers convinced truck guys that a solid front axle wasn't all it cracked up to be in the 80's, I'm sure they can turn the tide around :haha:

I don't know what a "JK" is.

For one.... there really is a Jeep thing......:doah: Jeep will always sell offroad type vehicles because they ARE the definition of a "4wheeler." Us fullsize guys may not like that, but it's true.

There was no convincing about IFS being better in the 80's. 99% of the population buying 1/2ton or smaller vehicles don't care about how strong their front end is, nor the difference from one part to the next part in the first place. All they care about is what rides the best.

The big three just don't seem to have much luck making a capable 4 wheeler take off like wild fire. Just look at the Dodge Power Wagon..... are they even still making those?

Because they didn't offer it with the cummins diesel in it, if they had done that it would have sold like crazy.

If the power wagon only came with the Cummins, I could hear it already...... "(guy 1) that engine is WAY to heavy to be in a true 4 wheeling rig. (guy 2) yeah man, what were they thinking, a small block V8 would be nice and light but still have just enough power. (guy 1), yeah totally!"
:haha:

and the cummins would add another 8k to the asking price...

I think the big 3 are just like everyone else right now- trying to stay alive. so they are sticking with their bread and butter.
