Re: why SHOULDN\'T i run 44\'s??? Any reasons?
I hate to get sucked into this, but what the hay...
Since you mentioned magazines, let's go with that for a second. The mags are good for learning about stuff, but I can't say that there are too many people around here that take them like the bible. How many of the rigs ever covered in those mags for their articles do you think ever actually leave the pavement? And, what about the TTC competition? There is a real competition of real offroad rigs. How many have you ever seen compete in that and do well with less than 40 inches of tire?
And when you talk about "around here", you might want to be a little more specific. If you mean here on CK5, then you obviously haven't paid much attention. I have been on this site for a long time. I was one of the first members when that was offered. And I have NEVER heard anyone on here with any sort of reputation at all talk about running stacked blocks. As a matter of fact, anytime blocks are even mentioned or even body lifts, those are not highly recommended except under absolutely necessary situations.
I run 35s and have for some time. I wheel with a good friend that run 33s. He and I go many of the same places. As a matter of fact, he takes his some places I don't even want to go. A lot of it has more to do with driving skill and lines and other equipment than tire size alone. HOWEVER, there are other times where he and/or myself have been in some pretty big hangups. We eventually ot through them with either a tow, a winch, or a lot of rock piling, but a taller set of tires would have made it easier.
For me, 42s with my 4 inches of suspension lift will work just fine. But, then again, I am from Texas. And we build everything bigger down here!
