Why There's No Big Block V6 ?

I bet that sucker, if put In a c3500 dually truck with a turbo400 will pull a lot of stuff on a trailer than a truck with a diesel
if you ever seen one up close you would rethink this . not that much room to do it . the v6 is a decent size to begin with . there a super reliable engine and just run for years .

They make cams for em. Including the V12 there was a V8 too all 60° motors. Biggest problem with them for making power was compression ratio. Like 6.5:1

Completely useless and pointless motors in a modern context. Would I put one in something if I had the chance......oh yes I would. One of them V12s would look good in a t bucket. Talk about a freak.

Oh there were also diesels.

I really dig those motors. Trying to talk my buddy into using one in his mid 20s Essex rat rod

Does he have one, or do you know of one?

Not the easiest to find

The 637 V8's were rather uncommon, but I saw several in a fleet of GMC school buses we used to service at the vocational school shop, they were a huge beast--looked like a 454 on steroids, maybe half as big as an Allison V-12..
I remember them having some type of Hydra-Matic transmission (maybe an Allison?) behind them, that shifted harsh as hell, both upshifting and downshifting--they used to eat u-joints fairly rapidly due to the constant starts and stops..the buses had at least two long drive shafts with carrier bearings..
One of the bus drivers told us how he "got the wheels spinning on ice once--then it hit dry tar,and it twisted up one shaft like macaroni and then tore itself free from the carrier bearing mounts"...said they had to send another bus to take the kids to school, then tow it away!..

We had 3 or 4 of the 305 and 351 V6 engines in the junkyard that still ran ,one was in a 1/2 ton GMC 2wd pickup of all things, the others were in C-60's,one was an oil delivery truck..we also had two cab over GMC's there, one had a 478 V6 and the other had a "Toro-Flow" diesel, which looked quite similar to the 478 ..weird diesel, leave it to GM to invent one like that..

^ Huh,I never heard of or saw one of those !...like to learn more about them..

I recall seeing Chevy's first ever V8 at a swap meet in CT,back in the 80's--it was made in 1917,had exposed rocker arms and push rods!--guy had it running on a stand in the back of his pickup truck..never seen another one since..several spectators did not believe it was built by Chevrolet, but the guy had photos in books to back up his story, everyone was saying the 265 was the first V8 ,in 1955,but it wasn't..

Chevy 288, came in the Series D, and made something like 55HP...

We have a family friend who had a 305 in a 67 K2500 GMC step side. It was a sweet setup with some massive Rockwell t-case in it and a Muncie 3 speed manual. That V6 and t-case made that transmission look like a thimble sitting in there.

It was a super nice truck and ran great but it was hard to find pieces for. I wish I could have bought it from him for the novelty.
